Hit a curb going 60 mph
So I hit a curb going 60mph with my 335xi 2008. The wheel is severely bent inwards on top. What damage could have happened? Control arm, strut? I just took it to a mechanic and I'm waiting for an estimate. What do you guys suggest doing?

We're not gonna be able to tell you anything without pictures.
Could be easy component changes, could be a bent frame. 60 mph is a hard impact.

Pretty much anything attached to that wheel is susceptible to damage at that speed.
Another factor is the angle at which you hit the curb and the height of the curb. Also open your hood and check the strut tower. You may have cracked it or pushed it up. I hope for your sake that this is not the case. Hopefully the wheel absorbed all the impact. Post some photos of the carnage. |

What could be damaged: Wheel, all suspension control arms, steering linkage, front strut, front half shaft, rotor, brake caliper and mount.....
I doubt you damaged all of these, but you asked what could be damaged and that's the list. On the low side, probably $600 for new wheel and tire. On the high side, $4-5K. Plus labor.

I also hit a curb going about 40mph years ago. The lower control arm, tie rod, strut and subframe were bent. And recently, I've been noticing a humming sound coming from the wheel bearing that hit the curb so you might replace that eventually.

I hit a pretty deep pothole while braking, probably going about 25 mph at impact. Immediately the DTC error came on and the car was pulling hard to the right. Neither the run-flat tire or the wheel sustained damage, but the control arms and strut all had to be replaced. Dealership charged $1300 for the replacement and alignment.
At 60 mph, I would think you have that plus other stuff damaged. Good luck.

Double that, based on descriptions. If the top of the wheels is pointing in as a result of a cracked or punched through strut tower, just the body repair and weld will cost about $8,000.

Good luck! I hit the curb going 20, bent my trailing arm, subframe, and bushings. Luckily my uncle is a mechanic. But in parts alone, spent over 800... And the labor hours is extensive. Subframe alone was supposedly 9-11 hours... Going 60. I'd say you're looking at least $2,500.

Thank you guys for the inputs. I didn't get any notification saying that you guys responded so i assumed my post went into a black hole until now.
So just like most of you said, the Strut was bent, Sway bar link was bent and after he did the alignment he told me that the subframe is bent but you wont be able to notice it while driving. Everything with the wheel and 2 tires cost me 1100$ |

$1100 sounds dirt cheap I mean tires alone are over $500.... I once had a guy tell me on my Nissan my subframe was detached but it's not worth fixing. I asked so that means the motor is relying on just the two mounts and moving more that it should, are you sure I'm ok to drive it like that? He goes yeah, eventually the motor will fall out, but it shouldn't be right away. (I eventually found some forum members who reattached it for $100, body shop wanted $1,700) |
