Service Light

HI ALL
I have a question about my 2009 323i service indo. My car due for major service at 180000k. My question is what exactly the dealer will do to the car or just checking. I don't want to pay $180 for them just to do inspection. Car is running fine.

Thanks

They will put your car up on the pedestal as shown and give her the attention she deserves

You need to check your service history, see what is due.

Agreed, they'll gladly pay $47,000 for a vehicle, but then balk at the annual maintenance costs.

Easy. These cars can be had for under $10k. That's why.

If you're buying a car for under $10K, no matter what the maker, you should have deep pockets to keep it running. Clearly the price tells you it's gonna need investment.

Just because you own a BMW, you don't have to p*ss money away at the dealership for no reason. Dealer near me is a useless POS, so why would I want to spend hard earned cash there?

OP has a valid point, but unfortunately BMW believes the customer must be raped at the dealer for all service, so they don't list ANY of the service intervals for these cars. Apparently everything is lifetime (which really means to the end of 39 month lease or 4 year loan).

Best bet would be to google and find out the recommended maintenance at that interval.

I've never done the "Vehicle Check" which is most likely what that service is.

It's like $200 for them to go just over the car and tell you if anything needs fixing or replacing. There isn't even a list of what they check for that. Just a vague "Vehicle Check". No thanks.

Y'all can stay on your mighty BMW horse and throw cash at the dealer if you want because its "required maintenance", but just because you drive a BMW doesn't mean you have to be dumb with your money.

This is totally false. You can find BMW service schedules all over this forum, google and oh yeah, your manual.

No, THAT is totally false. BMW completely did away with maintenance schedules with the "Condition Based Service" system. There is no maintenance schedule in the manual, nor is there an official maintenance schedule anywhere to be found for cars with CBS.

The best we have is follow the "old school" maintenance schedules for E46-era cars, or go by third party recommended schedules (eg Mike Miller).

Clearly you are uninformed. Do a simple google search, you'll be amazed by the results.

Not so. The BMW recommended maintenance schedule (including CBS vehicles for many years) is found in the Warranty/Service manual which comes with each Bimmer.

Hi All
My car service light is on at ~180,000km. I replaced the engine oil and filter, replaced engine air filter, replaced carbine air filter, bought a brand new set of run flat tires. What else should I do...??? any idea please let me know. Thank you in advance.
Car is running just fine.

Exclamation Free brake inspection overdue @ 180,00km

There are literally dozens of places other than the BMW dealer system out there offering FREE brake inspections. Try the place where you bought your tires........

See what item your car thinks it needs, then decide whether it actually needs it and act accordingly. Either 1-replace the item and reset the service indicator or 2- reset the service indicator.

Search for YouTube vid on service indicator reset.
