CA Door Handle

I went to get my key coded so my comfort access will work and I was told that I have to get a new driver side door handle for it to function for that door. I didn't get a price for the job because I moved but I wasn't planning on going to the dealer anyways. Is this something I can diy or go to a Indy for. I can't find much information on this for our cars.

Does the car have the Comfort Access option?

If not, its a lot more complicated than just swapping out the door handle. Only a handful of people have successfully retrofitted it I believe.

Is it a good DIY project?

If your car has Comfort access and your door handle is broken: Yes

If your car does not have CA and you want to retrofit it onto your car: ... I'd say no, unless you're really motivated...

Unless the door handle is malfunctioning, you don't need a new door handle. You just need a CA key and the dealer to program the CAS to accept that key for CA functions.

So CA works on the passenger door and to start the car?

You can buy a new one from any BMW parts website or try to find a used one (has to be the same color). Just find the part number and google it, then see who's the cheapest.

Are you sure that is the correct part number? Because when I look it up on realoem, it is listed for European models except for maybe 1 or 2 US entries.

I don't think it is. I tried searching but I couldn't find the number. And I couldn't find the part on the Tischer website

Anyone know if m3 door handles will fit on our cars. I would assume that they do unless there's some special m technology That makes their door handles more aerodynamic than a normal 3 series

CA door handles must be ordered from the dealer. They are pre-painted from the factory per-order with a special paint that allows the touch sensitive functionality to work.

So a door handle from eBay won't work? Then why are they being sold on there? And will it have to be coded

Did any other car co. use inductive wiring, and does this still exist on new BMWs? It seemed once again to be overengineered......I noticed even Lexus and Infiniti use a button...

Just called Bmw of south Atlanta and was quoted $344 for the driver side door handle... Is this really my only option?

I've got no idea whether the handles need to be coded to the car (ie one from the junkyard) or not.

Does the sensor on the door pick up the keyfob or is that the CA antennae?
