Tempted by an Audi TT RS, but still here!
Another weekend just browsing local cars and ran across this black 2013 Audio TT RS. The red rims and red interior trim just caught my eye (factory option). Initial plan was to keep the BMW for 2 more years since it's only got 46k miles, then find a low mileage E92 M3. Saw this and I started second guessing myself.
Guess they only sold about 1000 of these in the US between 2012 and 2013. 360 hp, 6 speed manual only with a 5 cyl turbo. 30k miles, price in the mid 40's. Had the wife convinced I was due for a different car, wasn't easy with a 4 month newborn. Then I found out it was a lemon buyback and for the price, didn't bite. Disappointed but gotta move on.. Found another one on carmax, but it just didn't have the visual appeal of the black and red. Last edited by critical05; 05-16-2016 at 08:41 PM.. |

I assume the title would be clean (regular) in Iowa, its either clean or rebuilt (salvage). Without the Carfax, I don't think I would have known. The carfax didn't say why it was lemoned
Lemoned in Cali, bought at an auction and brought to Iowa. Ohhh, A simple tune brings it to 410 hp and 447 lb*ft Last edited by critical05; 05-16-2016 at 08:36 PM.. |

I'm actually looking to get a 2017 Q50-TT once they're 2 years old or so.
The TT-RS is an amazing car, but even the new TTS looks to be a fun car. That half v10 just makes amazing noise and with some basic mods makes for an excellent car. |

Oh you are in for a surprise and I can honestly say that because I came from Audi over to BMW. The older Audi's are a thing of beauty I still have my 04 Rs6 that has the maintenance regime of a helicopter but I love it. But these newer direct injected Audi's are $hit, I have been tuning, repairing and performing maintenance on a few of my friends vehicles and even my parents had a 2015 Sq3 which they couldn't get rid of fast enough. If you think you have it bad with the N54 just wait until that transverse mounted pile takes a dump. They still haven't figured why this family of engines from the 2.0L to the 2.5L consume so much oil from new they just tell you that it is within spec. There is absolutely no easy way to clean the deposits from the intake valves like how we can walnut blast and they have the worlds worst customer support. But this is just my 2 cents and should be taken only as that.

Run, run as fast as you can! I don't know much about the newer TT's but the old ones looked cool, but weren't reliable and definitely not fast. We had a few locally that I used to beat up on with my old Civic and Accord, super slow even modified. Stick with the N54, it's a much better platform than Audi's have, if you get sick of the turbos, go for an E90/E92 M3.

Anytime the four rings call, just remember how they've handled the Takata situation, and that they are owned by VW. That should be enough to avoid their products. Want to tempt fate? Buy a FWD diesel!

I also came from Audi's and have been doing S cars, tuned to the ragged edge, since '93.
The motor in the TTRS is the evolution of the original 90/RS2/UrS4 5 Cylinder, and it's probably one of the very best motors ever made. Not only bullet proof, but readily capable of 600+ HP with no reliability issues whatsoever. RS2's were never brought to the US, and are Unicorn cars now, but my Ur was fully RS2'd under the hood. It was as reliable as a Honda Accord until the day some asshat rear ended me at 60 mph. Get that car to AMD (Addict Motorsport Design) in Woodenville, WA and let Jason turn it into a missile (notably one of the best Audi tuners on the planet). You'll never be sorry once you get good suspension and 0ver 600 HP in it These cars are real jewels when tuned right (and APR does a mediocre job of it compared to AMD). last time I was at the indie where my Nissan has work done, they had 2 997 Turbos (guess that shows how expensive to maintain when a 2010 goes to an indie). They had an original Quattro, and several 944's including a Turbo (always seems to be one being repaired). Hard to avoid VW products, I know....

Nice car, however TT's have never caught my attention. Would much rather go for an M3 4 or 2 door.

I'm not an Audi guy, but that is the only Audi you'd find me in. I'm in love with the TT RS. Do it if you find a good priced and miles one.

I had a few audi's before:
2001 TT roadster, 225 hp 6 spd (there are two varients, 180 hp had a single tailpipe, 225 hp had dual tailpipes). 2005 S4, 4.2 v8, auto I have been lucky and didn't have any real issues with either of those cars. With the few miles i put on my car, I hate the depreciation factor. I did have fun in the old TT and thought the depreciation would be less on a very limited production variant. The 2017 Audi TT RS bumps the power up to 400 hp but it will only available in an auto. Last edited by critical05; 05-17-2016 at 03:31 PM.. |
