Have you ever lost an EZPass?

Just curious if that's ever happened to anyone where the tag is gone and someone goes buck wild with it....

Going buck wild with an EZPass doesn't sound too exciting.

I looked up a couple of jurisdictions and they said you are responsible for all charges and use incurred prior to reporting it as lost. You are not liable for any use after reporting it.

How did you lose an EZPass?

I accidently left mine in a car I sold, but I didn't realize it until time had passed. I reported it lost when I did realize it, and luckily they did not go buck wild haha.

I guess it's not as "exciting" as losing a credit card...I loaned one to a relative and found out that they lost it 2 years ago...I had forgotten about it and was actually wondering how much to replace because the website doesn't say...$9. whew!

Was hoping someone would have stories to tell, like..."I dropped one at the massage parlor once, didn't think it would be a big deal, but all of a sudden...."

Find a lost EZpass, take the same bridge over and over again...

How exciting...

Me: I will take that e92 M3 please, sticker price of $45,000...

Dealer: Are you paying in cash or financing with us?

Me: Oh no, that won't be necessary. I will just charge the M3 on my EZ Pass I have here...

Seems like a dumb thing to steal seeing as how most of the toll booths take pictures of the car.

You can deactivate for free. It's when you want a replacement that you have to pay...in my case $9, which of course is nothing...

It shouldn't be an issue because...

...if you try using it for a car that isn't registered with EZ-Pass, it most likely won't work when an unauthorized user (vehicle) goes through the toll booth.

I found this out the hard way when I tried using my transponder in my wife's vehicle (mine is kept 'loose' in my glove compartment and isn't stuck to my windshield). The 'Paid' light at the toll booth didn't appear so I contacted EZ Pass later that week to discuss. They told me I could register my wife's car, entering the model info and license plate, and all would be fine if I tried this again...and that's all it took.

Yeah, someone steals your transponder, it might work once or twice, but no way they can run up charges on it because their system will reject unregistered vehicles.

Yep. You control your EZ Pass transponder on your account. If it's lost or stolen, all you need to do is deactivate/terminate it or report it lost/stolen and that's it. You'll just have to by a new one, register it on your account, and you're good to go.

Actually, not true.....I have a BMW rental and wanted to use a transponder, but do NOT want a misread because that will cost $$$$. The toll, PLUS an admin fee from Enterprise. Long story short is EZPass' policy is DO NOT ADD A RENTAL CAR TO YOUR ACCOUNT. I suppose the reason is the amount of disputes it generates, I don't see why that wouldn't work in theory. They state you can use your transponder in any car provided it is of the same class. I've been doing this for almost 4 weeks daily in a rental 328i.

the idea of registering the plate is that if the tag does not read, they will still put the toll on your account, it just takes longer....too many times and it's supposed to be a violation....

Hmm I've used my transponder in rental cars without registering tons of times and it has always worked just fine.
