What car to get next?

I have been lucky to have experienced little to no issues on my 2008 e90 335i the last 6 years until last night. Heading home from work on a busy freeway and the car gives off the engine overheating warning and the car goes into limp mode. I am expecting a big bill today. My guess it is a water pump failure, which is common on these cars. Again I have been lucky on this car without any issues to date. It has been a great car no complaints besides being stuck on a major freeway last night. It is a badge of honor lol.

I have been wanting to get a newer car ranging from the e92 M3, 340i, M235i and the new M3. Of course if money grew on tree's I would just get the new M3 or even the M2 if I could actually find one to purchase. Any recommendations on a newer BMW from those that have taken this similar journey?

yep...

It is really amazing the demograph for e9X owners. About 90% are "car driving only" enthusiasts, 10% are willing to work on their own cars. So fast to turn tail and run from general maintenance items.

You must just be bored with the car cause to have no issues in 6 years and then to finally have the most common e9x issue isn't grounds for letting her go.

Thanks all for the responses. I should have stated I have done most of maintenance on the car myself. Part of the appeal to having this car this long was the ability to do my own maintenance. The challenge I have is getting the time to fix the car with a growing family. Miller335 it might be true that I am getting bored with this car or concerned with the next big issue coming around the corner. It has been a fun car and it looks nothing like it did 6 years ago (M3 bumper, LED angel eyes, Fogs, 19' Avant Garde Matte black wheels, cobb tune, interior vinyl carbon fiber trim).

My comment wasn't meant to be aggressive, I have just come into the world of E9X recently and it was just an observation between different car chassis groups.

Being bored with the car is a valid reason to change...but it will cost you a lot more than the price of a water pump to scratch that itch.

BTW, I used to do all of my work too before career went crazy.

I am in the same boat with you regarding the career! Time is limited... Sales Tax alone will remind me of the pain of buying a new car.

After spanning a few generations I'd venture to say 90% is a conservative figure for all bimmer owners that drive and do not work on their cars.

OP, I'd say if you have the itch then gran coupe, all the way, but of course I'm bias :-)

Fix the water pump - it will have to be fixed anyway in order to sell it. Keep driving it until the G20 3 series comes out, this one is supposed to fix alot of the sins of the F30 series. Improved handling and interior quality.

I have to say that M235i is a great car. I justs test drove both the M4 and the M235 over the weekend. I kept telling myself is the M4 worth 30k more because the M235i was so much fun. The value and performance on that car is really impressive. I am not track guy so I am not sure the M4 is the right car for me, but money aside it was amazing car too. You picked a winner!

Alright the 335i is back and running. It was the water pump that failed. I saved about 600 dollars or so doing it myself so thank you for those for giving me the extra motivation to do it myself. Not going to lie I took longer than most in completing this job. I had my neighbor pop over to give me a hand a couple times because I was working into the night. Just like replacing rotors and breaks for the first time you get the handle of it.

Yeah, the water pump/therm was an all day job for me. I think it would be a lot quicker now... I may even be tempted to take off the bumper if I had to do it again.
