Cup Holder "Mod"
For those of you that use the car and would like to drink something, the cup holder sucks. So I have a simple "mod" that works perfectly.
With the cup holder out, you can use a flathead screw driver to remove the drop down stuff from the main holder. Use the flathead to pry the apart the tabs that hold the hinged parts. Too much torque and the tab will snap off. You can leave the front spring loaded lip. The cup holder then is simple a hole. Most mugs, including the BMW mug will sit lower and snugly. I took the guts out of my and I am caffeined-up My buddy and I were racing around the other day and my coffee stayed put. Downside Beware of non-ridged cups, Starbucks type cardboard wraps help. Will not hold thin items like smaller water bottles.

I did this quick 'mod' and it works great. I was able to get the clips off without breaking any.

Great Idea! Good cup-holders, one of the few areas the Germans are clueless in...

If you apply the right amount of pressure they come out with snapping. I broke the first one i tried.

Interesting mod for sure. For those of you planning to do this, I'd recommend heating up the tabs a bit with a blow drier first - that'll make 'em a bit more flexible and less likely to break...
