Bmw E90 On Rough Uneven Roads

Anyone with same problem with me.

Have a 2008 bmw e90 with 50.000km on the dash. Our roads are pretty bad, patched everywr and uneven. it feels like a nightmare driving through them. i thought it was me suspension and so i changed it but nothing has changed. is it because bmw e90s have stiff suspension and are low or its something else

Help anyone

Yeah, that's pretty much it. These cars are generally designed for smooth surfaces.

If you're still on runflat tires, get rid of those.

Sport sedan is not so great at bumpy roads.

All of the above. Sports suspension (if you have, don't change) + run flat (if you have, do change). The tires are awful - get some michelin pilot sport or something.

Even without sport suspension, the E90 is still relatively stiffly sprung compared to other cars. You can get non-runflat tires to soften the ride a bit, or downsize your wheel and tire combo (18 to 17 or even down to 16), and that's about all you can do.

+1. I have non-runflats and I still felt that might was a little rough...it's nice to see everyone agree that it's normal.

E9X`s suspension is very stiff, on rough road under a certain speed, vibrations from steering wheel, central console, door trim and seat hence noise comes from everywhere. The road doesn`t need to be bumpy, a rough bitumen surface would let us surfer enough.

Non-M sports suspension can give less vibration. Tyre size also helps. 17>18>19 in terms of comfortability, under same suspension. Run-flat tyres also play a role, but I won`t bother to change, mine is S001 which is a lot better than my old RE050 IMO.

In the end, I have to admit I am addictive to this feeling

I Agree. even a rough tarred surface would do the trick. Do the F series have the same problems or this a BMW problem across the board

It's not really a problem so much as it is a design philosophy. Traditionally, BMW has made the 3-series more oriented towards performance as opposed to comfort. The assumption that is made with this design philosophy is that the car will typically be driven on smooth surfaces. Since you aren't using the car on smooth surfaces, you are seeing the downside to this design philosophy.

If you want a smooth, boat-like ride then get something that is designed more towards comfort rather than performance like Lexus or Acura.

F has a softer suspension compared to its E counterpart hence produces a more comfortable journey. I got F as loan car when my E is in service, different feelings. Overall E is more joyable, F tends to be more practical.

I find it becomes even more noticeable when the tires wear out (run-flats). Gets a little spooky when it starts to wander on uneven road surfaces and bad asphalt patch jobs....
