How to rid the car of Creeks, rattling, squeaking etc.

Ive noticed over the few years ive owned the car, its developed a couple problem areas for "squeaks" and "rattles". One in particular is driving me nuts, the front dash sounds like it has a lose screw rattling inside the air vent or something. Any tips or ideas on what to look for when tackling these jobs?

EDIT: I would like to add that the one coming from my dash sounds like a screw lose in the vents but does not come or go relating to that. It comes and goes when I go over hard bumps it "losens" up and creeps up and then goes away for a while if I've been on smooth surfaces. It won't make that sound over bumps until I hit hard ones again and then it returns with ease if that makes sense. Lol

An annoying creek can usually be fixed by using a dam to either create a pond or divert the flow.

You know the slots where the windows are held when rolled up? Well roll the windows down and scrub the slots really well. You can test for squeaks by rolling the windows up and pressing against the top of the glass with the door closed. This worked for me.
As for dashboard sound I switch between blowing modes before eventually returning to the desired mode. Though I'm not so sure mine is as severe as yours.

I am having the same front dash rattle. I took apart the dash and could not source the issue.

I also have in my front passenger door a nice rattle that shows itself whenever I hit a bump.

My favourite one is the rear passenger seat, I get a horrifying squeak when I hot a bump. I'm convinced its an issue with the latch.

So like Natedog, there are a few of us out there that would like to resolve these minor issues.

I too have noticed lately some rattle coming from the dash, no noticeable parts loose. I would like to know what people have done to fix this. Thanks

Between your rattles and leaking roof, I think that your car is an exception.

Mine is completely silent. I just lubricate the roof every few months for a peice of mind.

Refreshing the suspension can do wonders for creeks and rattles. If the road vibrations are no longer dampened at the suspension it's going to travel up into the cabin and expose noisy areas.

I have what sound like a washer or a quarter inside my passenger door. When I accelerate it rolls back and when I brake it rolls forward. Second e92 I've personally been in that does this. First was a customers car.

The dash rattle is your computers ecu breaking off of its plastic supports and rubbing against them. There's fixes for this on this forum.

2009 e92 328i with 113k miles on it and I have 0 rattles or squeaks. I was just marveling at that fact the other day. I even have a corner loaded 10 inch sub that will vibrate the car and have 0 rattles even when thumping the bass.

on my e90 there are heater vents under the seat that blow rearward.

coins fall out of my pocket and sometimes travel up the vents, causing a noise similar to your description.

"cure" was to hard acceleration from low speed, out they come, then coast to a stop so they don't slide back in.

happened first 3 months of ownership, read about the problem here, it worked!

My whole f*cking car rattles, creeks and squeaks. I got so sick of it so I just started blasting music and it makes me feel better. In the winter its way worse too.

If you want a car that doesn't have any minor creaks/rattles/squeaks, go lease a new one at the dealership

No but seriously. E90's are not the newest cars on the road, and you can't expect perfection from them. I would just live with it unless the noise is very extreme and unmanageable.
