According to that jug, it meets BMW-Longlife98...

According to BMW....

BMW Longlife-98 (BMW LL-98)Special long-life engine oil, approved by BMW. Also meets ACEA A3/B3, API SJ/CD, EC SAE 5W-40. Usually required for BMWs manufactured before MY 2002. Obsolete since 2009.

Use whatever you want as long as it has the following on the bottle:

BMW Longlife-01 (BMW LL-01)
BMW Longlife-01 FE (BMW LL-01 FE)

So this oil isn't recommended? The ratings are obsolete?

Users manual for 2011 3 series says:

"Approved oils can be identified by the following specification:

Preferred: LL01 or LL01 FE

Alternatively: LL98"

Whatever that means I'm not sure.
Doesn't elaborate any further than that other than it saying you can use up to 1 quart of non approved oils with API SM or higher but that's oil with no LL spec.

What's your reasoning to want to run that oil instead of cheaper and more available LL-01 oils like Castrol Edge 0w40 (<$30 for 5qt at Walmart) or even BMW branded oil?

Liqui Moly has 5w-40 that is LL-01 and Castrol has a 0w-40 that is LL-01 and pretty inexpensive at that.

So this is what I noticed so far with oil burn off with 5w-30 weights with my car from worst to best:

-Valvoline full synthetic High milage-the worst needed a quart every few hundred miles

-Pennzoil Ultra Hyper-pretty bad right next to the valvoline.

-Liqui-Moly-not bad but not the best. Quart every 3-4k miles.

-Valvoline SynPower- was one of the best. A Quart every 5-6k miles.

Now I'm trying Pennzoil Platinum with natural gas and so far so good. I'm hoping it'll be in the Liqui-Moly, SynPower range but I doubt it. It'll probably be behind Liqui-Moly.

Next I'll try Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with natural gas and I'll see how that goes.

Again this was only my observation with different 5w-30 weight oils.
