2 series VS 3 series width

Having owned both, the 3 series felt a lot wider than a 2 series, but BMW lists the 3 series as 1811 and the 2 series as 1774, that's only 37 mm wider yet it looks a lot more than that, am I reading the numbers wrong? Or is there really such a small difference in size?

Yep, about 2 inches difference in old money.

I went from a 2 series to a 4 series and though exactly the same. The 4 looks huge but park them side by side and there is not a lot in it (apart from the 4 is about 8 inches longer)

And they dont weigh a lot less either. The M2 is only 17kg lighter than an M4.

The 320i is actually lighter than the M235i, as for the M2, that's as wide as a bus, it's only 6 mm less than a 5 series
