RW Carbon Fiber Spoiler Install
After 3 weeks of waiting on a Backordered item, i finally received my RW Carbon (Exotic Tuning Style) rear spoiler.
Item was well packed and protected inside the box. Upon inspection (like another user who ordered from a different source) the spoiler does have a tiny whole at the bottom, this is perfectly normal. The spoiler is super light and seems to be of quality finish. Only time will tell on longevity. Fit is pretty spot on! 9 out of 10 (only loss a point because it took a few tries to figure out how and where to put the double sided tape). Installation: Plenty of threads out there how to remove the OEM spoiler but i used this thread ( http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1081054 ) You really need a heat gun to make your life easier! (The hair dryer wasn't helping me, so i went to Northern Tools, and sure enough their last one was on sale for $13!) I had some fishing line, googone, rubbing alcohol, a couple of towels and 3M double sided tape (for new install as none was provided). I wont go too much into detail on the install as the thread above basically tells you what to do, but for the most part it wasn't hard, but taking the old residue off was extremely time consuming. Took 3 hours to get everything off the car!!! The next part was aligning the darn spoiler. At first i had placed the double sided tape as the image below. The problem you run into is that the center will tape down, but the edges will not. I thought i needed thicker double sided tape at first, but it was not the case as i will explain below. The image below was the 4th attempt (ran out, had to run to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night to get more) The trick is to place both 3M tape together, this way the rear isn't raised as much. (Do NOT remove the other side of the tape, read below for aligning tips). After using painters tape to guide i was able to get it exactly in the middle! Disregard the tape masking from the images above, it doesn't really help you as i found out later; instead, put the new Spoiler over the clean area (don't install just yet) and use some painters tape to hold it in place so you can mask the edges (i imagine having another person would help, but i did it myself). Once you have it aligned push down on the edges first then work your way to the middle. I am extremely happy with the results! Only took 4 freaking hours. I'll snap better pictures with my DSLR camera later this week after my Diffuser install tomorrow RW Carbon Fiber Lip install > http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1232338 Last edited by StarMan; 04-12-2016 at 11:33 PM.. |

Nice write up! Looks nice! You should try and get some other angle pictures up just to get a variety of the fit / look. Its growing on me.

OEM BMW M-Performance one. I already have it, it's just at the paint shop right now (should be done tomorrow). Although i must admit, the RW spoiler alone really matches well with my current diffuser (should have maybe left the M-Performance unpainted first haha, oh well)

I wonder what the difference is between the RW v.s. the CNAUTOFANS design of this spoiler style, besides the $100+ price difference lmao. Maybe they're even manufactured at the same factory, just shipped to, and sold by different vendors?

There is zero difference (comparing from the other thread). I just didn't know about CNAUTOFANS until it was too late, otherwise i would have ordered from there. RW Carbon has them in stock now, so at least you'll get it in a few days (it was back ordered when i ordered so it took 3 almost 4 weeks to get).

Is there a gap on the spoiler in the front closest to back window?
If you didn't put tape right up against that edge, you may have water get underneath and cause tape not to hold or worse. Looks good, I wanted to get the "exotic" type spoiler but went with the mperf one.

What size exhaust tips are those? I'm still trying to decide on 3.5" or 4". I will not have the stock rear valence anymore, by then though.

What a great choice to have the diffuser painted. Looks great.
You have a muffler delete right? Looks exactly like mine except I have black 3.5" tips. I made sure to get my diffuser put on before I did the tips so they weren't recessed. Post pics once you get them extended. |
