Cheapest scanner that can read codes for ABS

I have a windows 64 bit OS laptop but from my understanding no code reading software will work on 64 bit OS or through an emulator. Which leaves me buying a shitty laptop plus cable to read codes. Is there any android mobile apps that can read codes so I can see which speed sensor is bad? And codes to do with the pump just in case?

I'd be curious, because I purchased a $200+ physical OBDII that was supposed to work with my Nissan, and it could not communicate with the ABS.

I don't have this issue with the BMW because I have Rheingold ISTA D, and the BT (don't ask I have no idea why I have the latter, the forum led me to it 3 years ago), but I'd be curious if there is a $20 system that does ABS.

I specifically need to activate ABS (DSC), which Rheingold does.

Do you suspect that you have the 5DF0 and 5DF1 trifecta issue that you're trying to read, or something else?

I was curious, I have it too based on this forum. But there is a lot it doesn't do, yet costs a lot more--is it because times have changed?

For example, you need to switch out your DSC hydro pump and activate the ABS, can't do it.

You want to upgrade to an AGM battery, can't do it.

What is it that you can actually do besides read codes?

Or correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to see where you go in the program to do the above.

32 bit XP VM running INPA.

Or grab an old unwanted laptop off Craigslist to make a dedicated coding box. Personally I recommend the old Dell latitude E-series. Batteries run dirt cheap, and parts are plentiful.

Just curious, is VM a generic term, or specifically vmWare...can you use VirtualBox....

Generic term. VM = Virtual Machine. So VMware technically means Virtual Machine Ware

I wish I had another laptop to use...I ended up having to install Rheingold on my main laptop, my 2008 ThinkPad can't seem to even handle the install, takes 30 min+ just to attempt....new one only took 7 min.

About 2 days back the ABS, Brake and the angle sensor icon came on. Stayed on for a short while then turned off. Thought it was just a fluke but now my ABS is activating at slow stops. None of the lights have came back on tho.

Mine is the trifecta, where the abs/dsc goes out and everything is yellow...then it comes back (cruise will not work, nor will the hill assist)...has happened at least 10X now, but that indicates a fault. I need to pull mine out and send for repair. Which is why I got Rheingold. I bought it, I prefer not to download and mess around....it cost 1/2 the price of BT...and is what the dealer uses from what I'm told...

I had a failed wheel speed sensor. My BT scan tool told me exactly which one. The BT is loaded on a 10 year old lap top running XP. I just bought the ECS Tuning Schwaben scan tool to have a portable version, which is easier to use in some situations.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I haven't done the job yet, but I tried the Rheingold when my ABS was not lit, and I heard the ABS pump make it's noise when I clicked it for activation. the idea is that this will need to be done to get the air bubbles off/out of the ABS pump, and BT does not do this.

I know that some download Rheingold for free, but I'm not willing to get malware or viruses, so I bought it. BT is almost 3.5X the cost.

From what I've seen yes. They scan it then look up the code. They've never tried selling me something after. I am getting a barvarian plug now.

cuz my in-laws have a fancy Snap On reader that will read BMW, but now we're talking over the top, nobody here would spend that much...so I was curious about the "free" reads at auto parts stores...

Dunno what's so special about my Nissan but I couldn't read the ABS with a reader that specifically said Nissan ABS for my year. shop told me RF abs sensor....

now that I think about it, the message is coming through...most shade tree products are "READ" products, with CBS resets thrown in, ABS, etc. But when it comes to say activating a ABS/DSC pump, or changing a battery from lead acid to AGM, these products don't do it.....

Look into the ECS tuning scanner. There is a lot of positive chatter on this forum about that scanner.

Actually my ISTA d is on 64 bit win 7 pro. I didn't want to put it on My main core i7 5th gen laptop as it ate 31 gb but it took 7 min to install. My 2008 think pad took 30+ min to install and failed....and don't people use Carly on android?

Carly is an option. The scanner on ECS tuning's site can even code as well as diagnose. Carly can be used on your phone, but it's highly suggested to buy their hardware. My understanding is that it works better on an android platform.
