Wg rattle only on take off (new turbos)

Hey everyone, so I got my turbos replaced with brand new Vargas turbos, I have no acceleration rattle and no decel rattle and or revving rattle, but I seem to have some when taking off in reverse or first gear as I'm blimping the throttle to get going. I took a video inside my car port where I park for the noise to be more audible to hear, it's a bunch of reverse and foward starts to hear. Maybe it's normal, please help me with your thoughts.

Did you check them before install? I checked my wastegates over and over before I reinstalled my new snails. I would contact Tony at Vargas, hoepfully its a defect and he can take care of it.

I looked at them yes there was a little play like it should have nothing excessive. And they don't rattle at all when driving at any given time. I have jb4 also so I adjusted the wastegates to my liking, tony said the n54 is prone to rattling at that given moment even on aftermarket turbos. But yet again I'm
Not sure if that's normal noise or not.

My car has always had a good amount of rattle in reverse but it's from my aluminum flywheel. Seems odd that new turbos would have rattle whether its in reverse or not. Shouldn't really matter which was the car is moving. Do you tend to ride the clutch more in reverse?

Not really no, I thought maybe it was my clutch Aswell, but it's not I unplugged the vacuume lines and the noise changed so that tells me it's he wastegates. It's not just reverse its rly only when getting moving when engaging the gear and blimping the throttle, did you listen to the video? What do you make of it

I listened to it but cant tell what I'm hearing. I read multiple posts of people complaining about VTT turbos failing after a few months. Could be a quality control issue, but either way you shouldn't have rattle on a new turbo setup. Something seems fishy if Tony said thats "normal" IMO

Exactly why I went with OEM on my replacement over Vargas. I'd rather make decent power and not have them fail after 6 months.

My turbos are not failing, maybe I just need to play with my settings, I've had them for 6 months now and they pull hard and don't smoke etc. tony actually helped me out a lot and was very kind and answered a bunch of questions, oem will always come back with a rattle. As to why mine do on take off I'dk maybe I have to adjust my menu 12 a little. Or maybe not even wg rattle of you don't see anything wrong with the video yourself

Its hard to tell in the video I'm hearing a few different rattles. Also since the early E90's came out BMW has revised the wastegate design so the newer ones are supposed to have fixed the issue. Only time will tell, but I bought OEM Genuine BMW parts. So if they do begin to fail and rattle after a year I will be contacting BMW with a strongly worded letter. But the way I see it, if the stockers lasted to 137k these should be able to hit 150k.

Wait till the motor is cool and reach down the the Bank 2 turbo actuator rod and see if you can feel any play. Aside from that there isn't really a way to troubleshoot the actuators. Maybe a clamp or something came loose? Possibly a dropped bolt/tool laying around somewhere? I had a clamp come off my MK4 GLI and it sounded like my turbine exploded into bits. Hopefully its an easy fix, if not, take it up with Tony and hold your ground.

GOOD LUCK!

I can't hear any wastegate rattling from the video. Doesn't mean it's not rattling though. If you're using JB4 or MHD try adjusting the wastegate settings.

I've tried menu 10 at 0 and at 5000rpm, maybe it's menu 12 I have to adjust since menu 12 is for on throttle rattle?

The GLI was a good starter, but I wanted more power haha. I mean if you can't figure it out and it's not affecting anything, maybe just ignore it. Cars make all kinds of odd noises, you could try to have a local shop diagnose it but that might be pricey and get no where.

It's not affecting anything by any means. And it doesn't rattle anywhere else at all. I usually do all the work on my own cars and I already diagnosed it rly, maybe I need to play with my settings a little idk. And yeah I had a mk4 gli and Gti both on Airride but I decided I wanted a racekor so now I have a 335i that makes dumb noises 🌚

I originally sold mine to get an 04 R32, but searched for weeks. Eventually I stumbled upon an 07 335xi that was marked down at a dealership and was going to auction in 2 days. I wasn't sure about it but it was the best decision I ever made. I'm a BMW guy now but still have a soft spot for the MK4 Vw's

Ahhh nice, will always love mk4s, I'm actually bagging my friends for a side job next weekend (r32), but anyways. I took another video and lowered my DWP, the noise is still present but I'm thinking it's just normal, lowering it made my exhaust louder Aswell since the gates are open more, you don't hear anything weird in this video do you?

Is the louder sound when you are going in reverse? If so it just sounds like exhaust rumble. What kind of exhaust do you have? Honestly I don't think its has to do with the wastegate, I think my car sounds similar in reverse. Becasue it doesn't sound like a rattle to me. I can check my car to see if it makes the same sound, but its currently in my garage getting new turbos I have both new snails installed and after I finish the oil pan its gonna be smooth sailing to reinstall everything else.
