cup holders - any issues?
for those of you who use your cup holders daily (push it in and out), any issues so far? I've been told the cup holder mechanism is very flimsy.
Just want to know how careful i need to be with it, of course, it is not going to stop me from using it. Thanks |

Bought my 2010 new and haven't had any issues with them since day 1. Just don't abuse them and retract/detract with care and they'll be fine.

The previous owner of my fiance's 330xi had broken the pass side cup holder and removed it. I got a new one from the BMW dealer... it was like $100. I had to get a matching face plate/trim piece for the drivers side since all the cupholders they had at the dealer were the post facelift ones with the silver trim piece.
Installing the cupholder took about 2 mins. Since the installation i've nearly broken the pass cupholder getting out of the vehicle multiple times. I have short legs and keep the seat pretty far forward though. I can imagine it would also be problem if you have long legs with the seat moved back. I can see this cupholder breaking easily if you have to exit the vehicle in a hurry or if you just forget about it and try to hop out with the cupholder extended. it's easy to fix but i'm sure you have something better to spend $100 on.

I'd say don't sweat it. I replaced one of mine and it is literally a 5-minute job. Got the replacement cup holder for around $25 on EeeeBayyy.

I use mine daily, no problems. I though they looked pretty flimsy and useless but they work surprisingly well. I always put them away when not in use as they are too ugly to leave out all the time.

My 16oz or larger Redbull tips over any time I drive faster than a turtle sprints, or make a turn in either direction.
Quite the pain in the ass, the cup well should be deeper and from what I can tell there's no easy way to make it so.

I went into buying the car with the mindset that those cup holders were just going to suck and I'd have to deal with it. Surprisingly they work really damn well and haven't had any issues with mine. I'm pretty impressed with them especially considering they look like a total afterthought.
