Car Released from Port by BMW

My dealer called me on Friday to tell me that BMW has released my car from the Port Authority and they are awaiting pickup for shipping to the dealer this week. So I may have the car by April First if I am lucky.

BMW of Atlantic City
MSRP
First Allocation. I lucked out, I bought a car for my wife from them last year and the Dealer called me and said I know your into BMW M cars, we have this one with no deposit on it. This was a week and a half ago.

Has anyone been updated yet by their dealer?

My SA says they expect mine 10 days before release so they can ensure the car is all prepared and ready for me to pick up on the 16th. This is in the UK mind you. So far he has told me it was built, shipped to the UK, held by BMWUK at the port, and now just waiting for it to be released to them.

So pretty happy being kept up to date without me annoying him.

What ship was your car on???? Maybe we can gauge the release order by that. My dealer said it should be there by the end of the month. Also in NJ.

Mine is sitting at Brunswick Georgia. My dealer said I could have it as soon as it arrived, however when they emailed BMW North America about when they would release it from port they received a reply that said the M2s would not be released until mid April to the dealers. Dealers seem oblivious. BMW North America is calling the shots. This is for a customer sold HEA. I think ones that were not customer sold were delivered to dealers but it's anybody's guess how or if dealers were told they could not sell them until x date.

My HEA is sitting at the Final Processing Center, awaiting shipment to dealer. Waiting to hear from the SA that it's arrived at their site. We are planning on pickup on the 16th but both of us are hoping for earlier. Maybe April fools day we'll find out it was all a big April fools day joke about the 16th

I have also been told cars will leave the port but the dealers will not release to customers until April 16. I do not think there is a dealer in the U.S. that would jepordize their franchise by going against BMW orders. I hope I'm wrong.

If you track the car in the Wallenius Wilhelmsen website, you'll be able to tell when it was shipped and arrived. Your cargo id is the VIN. Mine arrived on 3/21. I hope we get some update this week.

Mine got discharged from the Tongala on Valentine's Day. Just hanging out at the port. A nice target for the birds. The delay is because they set up a make shift paint tent from an Easy-Up to respray all of the early cars due to bird poop etchings in the factory paint. And the recall for the bolt that isn't torqued correctly. I'm sure they'll be fine. Until I pull off the vinyl numbers at the end of a DE and all the paint comes with it.

Mine was on Tongala too! I'm sure they had a lot to talk about along the way like us complaining for an early release.

The torquing issue is real. It's been mentioned in other threads.

BMW NA has made sure to put lots of bird seed around your car and leave it on the beach at the ocean for the sea gulls to finish off.

I went back and doubled the bird seed and opened the windows too..

I'm considering going back and opening the hood for you and leaving an upper decker ...

Update:
"Our general sales manager was contacted last night by our zone rep that no M2 will be released before the announcement date next month now. The reason he said is it would give some bmw dealers an unfair atvantage over other dealers if they get theirs early. The announcement date is the 16th of April but yet to be determend at this time. Stinks, but I will keep you posted. "

So... nope not getting it anytime soon.

Folks I really don't get it. We have all been made aware of the April 16th date for a very long time now, so expecting to get your car early at this point is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

I don't expect to get it early I would just prefer it to sit inside at the dealer as apposed to outside at port

That I can get behind.

Here in Canada they are being stored at dealerships so not sure why US folks are getting shafted :

I guess it's too late to imagine getting any sooner. I'll finish my paper work on the 10th before my trip to Asia. I'll expect the car in my driveway when i get back.

That makes sense...aside from the fact my dealer called me last Friday and told me I was getting it early. Then reversed their position this past Monday. Just going off what I am being told.

In any case, I will be out of country starting next week, so I will miss the release date by a week or two.
