Front Windshield Tinting

I've always had all my vehicles in the past tinted all the way around that be including my entire front windshield with 50% tint. When I asked the tinter to do this to the front of my of my M235i he stated that he's heard of people ruining there electronics due to the water used to apply the tint?

Anyone have any input on this, stories?

I've not heard that one before, but wondering if radar detectors would work if you tinted the front? (Assuming you had a RD).

Mine is 45% and my Escort 9500 works just fine. the only problems I have had has been from a state Trooper with a chip on his uniform shirt.

Haha, hard to avoid them. I heard the problem is specifically for F22s.... Not sure why?

had Llumar air 80 clear tint on my windshield on a previous vehicle. It blocks about 40% of the sun's heat and 99% of UV rays. I liked it and did not screw with any of my electronics at the time when applied and didn't experience anything after.

he probably heard of others who tried to apply it and used excessive water or something. probably just due to sloppy application.

Looking to apply the same film to my f22 soon. unless someone knows of some type of unprotected electrical component that sites directly behind the dash, below the windshield or something.

I've had the Llumar Air 80 for close to a year now and it's great. No issues.

So you had the entire windshield on your F22 tinted?

As long as it is not metallic based tint you should be fine. Just get yourself a good Ceramic based tint to block out the heat (doesn't even need to be dark to block out heat.

3M Crystalline is an absolute beast when it comes to blocking heat (i would have gotten this, but to much for me, if you have the $$ DO IT). It is very pricey but even with their 70% tint you will notice a massive difference when comparing to a lower end 50%. My friend did his moonroof with their 40%, and no heat enters during the summer.

Checked pricing.....whooo that's strep for some film but I bet worth every penny! Too rich for my blood.

Installer texted me today asking if I wanted 70 or 50. I had 50 on my 2012 charger and actually was pulled over for my window tint but the cop never noticed my front windshield tint. Going with 50 again. I'll post pics Friday after its complete.

Had my windshield tinted recently. Went with wincos (I think 70%) and the heat reduction has been great. Only complaint is that it reflects some colors in certain lighting with my polarized glasses on. I would ask about that before getting it installed :-).

Did you ask or see the tinter do anything in particular for our vehicles to keep water from reaching the dash and or electronics below it? What tint are you using?

So South Carolina has a huge pollen problem, and I can't get a decent picture of the tint of the vehicle but I did take a picture of what I had the tinter do to cover the dash. He stared with the big components.
