Cracked windscreen replacement advice
Whilst driving on the M1 today, a lorry kicked up a stone and I now have an approx 8in crack in my windscreen. I'm with BMW Insurance but wondered if any of you have experience of using any of the windscreen replacement services. I haven't got HUD but I do have the camera for adaptive headlights and the usual rain sensor.
Thanks |

As for the cameras etc, they are all ousted in the mirror assembly and will just get stuck back on. |

I feel your pain. Same happened to me after having the car about 2 months. I was really pissed off.
I won't bore you with the ordeal I had with Admiral & Autoglass. What Autoglass will fit depends on your insurance. A new windscreen from BMW should be in the region of £250. I paid £200 for mine, complete with new side trims and top rubber seal, through a mate who works for BMW and gets mates rates discount on parts. So RRP can't be far off that. Fitting cost £150 at an independent place in Guildford (who it turns our, the local BMW dealer use anyway). I liked the idea of this because it was done indoors and out of the elements. As a point of interest, total cost for a genuine part fitted this way was less than what Autoglass would have billed Admiral for a pattern part (circa £700!). |

As for BMW insurance allowing you to nominate a company of your choice? I don't know about that but when you select 'windscreen' option on the automated phone answer, it diverts directly to autoglass, who very efficiently process the claim. |

Well I can only go on the info I had first hand. Autoglass said to me they fit OEM screens. I asked for confirmation that it was a BMW marked screen they said no. This is why I went elsewhere.
With respect to the post on price for a genuine BMW 4GC screen (with HUD) £597.97. |

I've had experience of Autoglass and BMW Insurance..... I've found them to only fit BMW stamped parts too. Autoglass said it would delay it slightly, as they'd have to get the screen in. The guy fitting it said they couldn't fit a non BMW stamped screen, as the insurers wouldn't wear it.

The best in the business re-fitted my wipers back the wrong way round on one car, and on a colleague's car they punctured the metal frame and it took him 12 months to find out why the car filled with water.
Watch them like a hawk. |

Handy advice all, thanks, as I found mine cracked this morning..... Bugger.
Insurance will 'have to check' that they can fit BMW part as it is normally 'a Pilkington' screen according to the Customer Service assistant. I await their response. On checking the car this evening the screen is Pilkington in any case so I'm struggling to see what the difference will be???

The "difference" for me was it was for a +£40k 6week old car. I'd didn't see why I shouldn't have a BMW screen and I didn't want any warranty issues in future. |
