Middle seat belt now has this at the bottom, anyone know why? :

You push your key into the red part to disconnect the belt - so the seats fold and the belt is not in the way.

Thought it was a combined "lap and shoulder" belt.
Maybe for easier rear seat put down.

My old car had a lap & shoulder belt for middle, but it was permanently fixed at the bottom, not removable. Old car didn't have split folding seats though.

Ahh thats why, my 2013 320ed has it and I have the rear folding seats.

The gap is exactly the same as the buckle above, you can use the buckle rather than scratching it with your keys to pop it open.

Current and last car had it. Both had / have folding rear seats. But pissed off its not standard on the saloon !!!

I find it odd, is it cost saving or are foldable ones less rigid hence why not standard?

Wallet dipping more like.

Were standard on my Volvo saloon earlier and plenty of other cars have as standard so can't imagine it being a strength or safety issue.
