Moving to Texas (Finally!)
Yep - that's right, finally making the move from Chicago to Dallas (actually Frisco). I've had a few consulting projects (1 in Fort Worth, 1 in Plano) last year and loved it so much I eventually convinced my wife. Compared to Chiraq, its warmer, has a cheaper cost of living, less crime, faster home appreciation, better schools, and no state income tax. Property taxes and traffic will probably be a wash. I've got a 3 car garage for my 2 Ms and whatever my wife gets so i will finally be able to wash my own car and give my own oil changes haha.
How's the car culture like down there? Frequent meets? Any good back roads or courses I should check out? |

Welcome to Texas! We have an amazing car culture here. I'm in Houston and while not overly familiar with Dallas I do know they have great car culture there and the roads are not nearly as crummy as the ones down here. As far as good back roads or courses, there is MSR Cresson which is near Dallas, and then of course COTA in Austin, as well as Harris Hill raceway in San Marcos and MSR Houston. Back roads is definitely hill country territory, where you will fine some nice ones. Not sure about Dallas area but I am sure you can find some there. Cheers and good luck!

Houston and Dallas have big car scenes. Combined the cities have over 10 Million people, so there's a scene for everything.
Only thing I an tell you about Austin is they have an outstanding university. Clearly the best one in the state. Stay away from college station though, just darkness & emptiness down there. Welcome to Texas!

Also in DFW (Plano) and picking my car up tomorrow. Have seen a fair few nice M cars around here, I suspect some are owned by people on here.

Yes, my realtor mentioned the Texas Hill Country a few days ago and after looking it up, I am so glad Texas has a place like this. Looks really fun. I'm still getting used to the idea that my 3 car garage will be bigger than my entire condo here in Chicago. SO 6mt M4 - a rare breed |
