Googlemaps Send to Car

Does anyone use this feature? How do I do this? So I recently figured out that BMW inputted my email wrong, how would I go about changing this to get it to work?

I use the BMW app on my iPhone to send addresses to my car...IS that what you mean?

I use this via the Google Maps web interface all the time. I search for a destination and hit "Send to Phone" - my car is listed there. You go to https://www.google.com/maps/sendtocar to setup your car.

I use this both on my phone and on my computer using the web interface.

The funny thing is, when I was using an Android phone, I could use the Google Maps app and the "send to car" feature was on the app. When I switched to an iPhone, the feature doesn't exist on the Google Maps app, so I have to use the BMW app. Why the difference?

Further, the feature exists on the desktop version of the map web interface but not the mobile version of the map interface?

I wonder why the choose to do that, when its (as I understand) a simple email-send feature behind the scenes. Its almost as if, by design, Google don't want you to have this feature on an iPhone. Which - thankfully - we can get around using the BMW app.

Yes, either from the app or from the computer. How do I do this?

I explained how to do it via computer two posts above this. The app is about as easy to figure out as it gets. Click on Maps -> Enter your destination -> Click it -> Send to vehicle

Sorry, I should have been more clear about my question. I have my BMW Remote app configured and the car added to the link you posted, but my question is do I need to go somewhere to load the destination I sent? Does the GPS automatically route me to the destination when I go in the car or would I need to go somewhere in the menu to pull it up?

Thanks in advance!

Oh I gotcha now...go to Connected Drive in your car, then hit messages...the things you send will show up there. You can then click on the one you want and get the details about it/navigate.

Look for a text message in the car's menu. It will have the coordinates. You just click on the message and the map loads the info.

I called BMW assist to get my account ID, they said it was my email address they have on file. Does this seem correct? I tried sending a destination to my car from my PC and it has not arrived.

So I've tried multiple times and my car doesn't seem to be getting the messages. The lock/unlock and horn work through the app, but the maps aren't. Any idea how I could fix this?

Some people have mentioned that the dealer is supposed to put an email for you, does this effect anything?

Correct, the "Account or Device ID" is the email they have on file for you.

As a sanity check, you can go here to confirm you're subscribed to Remote Services and ConnectedDrive.... https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com/cd.../servlet/login
Either way though, you may need to check with the dealership to see if there's anything they need to do on their end. I don't recall having to do anything special.

If the horn and lock work then the connection to your car is working.

Also, the account ID you need on Google is set by you when you signed up for ConnectedDrive. It's called the "Vehicle login" on the BMW site if you look at your settings. It took me a few tries to figure this out...

Dealer never showed me this. The mapping works in both cars using my iPhone and BMW app.

I do wish BMW would speed the connection up as it takes to long for connect drive to load.

I found the "Vehicle Login" on the BMW ConnectedDrive site you were talking about. Right now it's set to "BMW228i". I'm guessing I need to change this to my email instead?

Edit: So it looks like I'm not able to change it to an email address. What's weird too is when I go and send an address to my car, it says "destination sent". It must mean something is going through to somewhere, but I guess just not to my car...

For me, I had to pick something totally unique. Try editing that in your profile to something unique - "esp260228" or something - and then add that on google as well. They don't allow special characters, so an email won't work.

Odd that BMW makes you set a world-unique username for your car, but they do. BMW228i (unless you were the first to get that) is not unique, and so it probably doesn't make it to you.
