So, I have decided I am rather peeved off with sweeping leaves and crap out of the garage, and its blooming freezing in there too, so I am guna bite the bullet and get an electric roller garage door.

Through my many hours of research I have narrowed it down to two doors.

1) Hormann Rollmatic

2) Seceuroglide excel

So does anyone have any experience of either?? I want warm, secure and trouble free.

To be honest I am leaning towards the Hormann as zee germans are very good at designing and imparting good workmanship into their products, however the downside with the Hormann is the wait for it to be built (7-8 weeks opposed to 3-4) and the cost and availability of spare parts.

The Seceuroglide has extra security features, yet the Hormann has better safety features.

Both cost within about £100 of each other fitted, so I am not sure??

I've got the Hormann EPU40 double-skinned roller door.
It consists of four horizontal sections and is powered by their "Promatic" operator.
It cost about £1200 and was fitted by one guy in a single day with all the old door gear removed off site.

I've had it since April 2013 and the only trouble I've had is that it began to auto-stop half way down then return to the open position.
That turned out to be the safety feature that detects an obstruction by increased movement force. It was a simple matter to re-program it by putting it through its learning sequence again.

All fine since - highly recommended.

PS - the F30 doesn't fit in the garage so it's Lady Dosser who gets to use it.

Chris, with my previous up and over door, the bottom edge wasn't properly sealed to the floor and leaves, pine needles, crud etc. would get blown under it. Also leaves collected at the base and when you lifted the door the draft created sucked the leaves into the garage. My new door is a four piece sectional item that lifts vertically, an added bonus because you can park right up to it without bashing the car when you open the door and it sits on a proper rubber seal at the bottom.

Danny, a friend has some Hormann doors and has been very pleased with their faultless performance over about 10 years. I chose a Novoferm door over the Hormann simply because Horman could not make one at 4.25 m width with a wicket door and Novoferm could and did. Cost £2300, motorised, including LED downlighters under the lintel. It's quite a large door!

I use this in my car, it's good in the LCI hidden below the sliding cup holder. Fits in the 12V cigarette lighter although it doesn't use the power it has a button cell inside it. Can also get a 2 button version if you have twin doors.

I also have an electrically operated Hormann overhead sectional door., double skinned and insulated. Five years in, 100% reliable.

Conventional up and over doors don't seem to have the seal at the bottom and sides as the electrically powered doors do, mine is certainly a good fit and draught free.

Thanks guys, yeah, the normal up and over doors don't seal well at all, always cold in the garage (which is good for the beer though) and draughty.

I was heading towards the Hormann so looks like it will be that one then.

If you are pretty handy with a spanner, then a decent electric garage door can be had for easily less than 1k.

Ooo, I like that . I have a Sommer automated opener, attached to my current up & over door. Wonder if that remote would code to that as mine is rather clunky & has 4 channels for 4 doors! (it does retract but still it around 3" long closed).

The leaves do piss me off mind, would love to get a couple of proper sectional doors one day.

The key thing is make sure you have a rolling code change.

Fixed codes are as mentioned literally 'child's play'.

Rolling codes will cost a thief a few pennies...

Hacking Tx/Rx data channels is pretty easy as there is not much encryption and when they do encrypt, the first data block is nearly always the primary key.

Cheers Brigand. I have not fully read it but I know Hormann uses an encrypted remote.

The car lives outside, so if anyone wants to camp outside just in case I press a button then they are more than welcome. Lol.

We had a Thermogilde electric roller door fitted a couple of years ago and I have to admit I didn't do my research and plumped for using a local company which was recommended.

Thermoglide do not seem to get great reviews albeit in that time our door has been faultless, used several times a day(use it for bringing dog into house after a walk for a clean up) and not a single problem.

If I were to order again the German doors seem to get the best reviews and probably where my money would go.

I had a quote for a 4.6m auto large sectional door (not Hormann) £1600 supply only as I will fit it myself , not sure if that's very competitive

Cheers guys, that's not too bad actually. Redrow want £900 to add a remote to the existing door, and same again to upgrade from a steel door to GRP, so paying £2000 to change the door completely to a more secure, and better all round one including the motor and remote operation looks like a no brainer to me.

My garages leads to the house so needed something tough and the extra security features on the excel just gave me the peace of mind. espeically the bonded slats and the anti lift system. Something even anglia windows ones didnt have at the time

Its pretty quiet in operation and the insulated slats help as well. Only suggestion if its facing south / south west so gets lot of sunlight avoid dark colours. Friend got a black one and his garage became an oven in the summer.

Not cheapest but very good I've had mine nearly 8 years it was taken down twice and put back up during extension work. Apart from loosing a keyfob no issues.

If you are serious drop me a PM as have a good contact for a fitter in M3 corridor depending on where you are based might be able to get you a good price
