They will sell, and lets be fair the boxster/cayman are two of lowest selling Porsches out there.

With Macan now selling umpteen thousand as well the boxster and cayman are the least popular in term of sales by a country mile. Best keep that tenner in your pocket....

As NISFAN says, it's a new boxer 4. Not everything in the VAG-Porsche group is from the same parts bin.
Mind you, Porsche will have to work hard to make it sound nice. The boxer 6 is a key element in the essence of the 911 in particular.

2014 panamera sales were around 16-17k units worldwide, if you add Boxster and cayman together then perhaps but not stand alone.
It also depends on the model cycle in 2011 the Panamera outsold both the boxster/cayman 2 to 1, but the 981 variant in 2012 boosted sales

This is pretty crap for someone who aspires to own a Porsche. By the time ill afford one they'll all be 4cyl, even the 911. This will help the value of the well kept, low mileage 6 cyl cars then

Don't expect a replacement for the Z4 either, though will be interesting to see what comes out of the collaboration with Toyota

You may be right and I'm thinking that's something I might try to take advantage of.

Indeed, I wonder what will happen with the price aligned mentioned i.e the softop should be more expensive that the coupe as per 911. This can go 1 of 2 ways only surely? 1. They keep the Boxster as is and reduce the price of the coupe to below it? LOL yerrr right 2. The keep the coupe as is and the cost of the Boxster rises!! Surely they wont do a 1/2 way and reduce coupe a little and pitch the boxster above it regardless?

Yee, gadzooks... Whatever next... Maybe they will build an SUV..????
To be honest, they will sell as many of them as they want to build, simple... I cannot for one moment seeing this denting their brand or their image or whatever one single bit... Some of us are old enough to remember the kerfuffle when they had the damned audacity to water cool the flat 6.... Anyway, here's a picture of a 4-cylinder turbocharged Porsche Hybrid... Three of 'em, in fact...

Joking aside, this has been on the cards for some years now... I first heard "rumours" of a 4 cylinder base model at least 2 or 3 years ago, possibly more like 3 or 4 now (time flies by)... I think they are thinking of an "entry" model that will bring new buyers into the Porsche world...
Personally, I am intrigued to see how they resolve themselves... Just reading through the article, I am also wondering if this is a move to wedge open more of a gap in the model line up between the 718's and the 911's... We know there's a sort of "cayman big brother" mid-engined car coming, and this might, then, fit nicely in the middle...? Just my thoughts...
