Tracker recommendations?

Having a look at fitting a tracker.

Getting some mixed feedback on them. Anybody got any recommendations?

Thanks

Better & cheaper to plug an old iphone with a cheap data sim in somewhere behind the trim & have find my iphone activated on it.

Trackstar have a few solutions- pricey though!

http://www.teletrac.co.uk/teletrac.c...flet%20fpo.pdf

You can set it up so that if it is moved then you get notified immediately. If the keys get nicked then if you have the Cat5 or Cat6Advance it will alert immediately as well if anyone uses the keys without the additional ID devices.

I'd put it behind the boot trim.

In some areas it's very hard to get insurance without one. And same again if you have a car worth £70k+.

And even if not, it's still going to help/deter in most situations.

I use a TomTom tracker, it's great, comes with a very easy to use app that you can access to show you where the car is along with the driving style of the journey (very good for when someone else is driving the car) we have them on all our cars. £265

I have the app, the Mrs doesn't

Doesn't the car come with a build in "tracker" - the BMW Remote app? (Certainly on later cars).

Yeah for where you need to fit it yes.

For £70k+ cars, they should come with alarmed anti jamming systems as standard.

The best system would be LORAN, or rather MILOR (miniaturised version).

Higher power, much harder to jam, works in underground carpark etc.

It can easily be turned off in the car though...

I know some you lot would laugh and don't see the point in one but I've had a save before when my car (not current BMW) was moved so I got a call from the tracker guys to let me know. It was actually being towed away for being parked on a single yellow at 9pm at night (scratches head) rather than stolen so it wasn't that bad.

I got a SmarTrack Trident installed for relatively cheap and they also do a one off payment that covers subscriptions for the duration of ownership - that works out cheaper if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

Check here: http://www.mobile-tracking-solutions.co.uk/ or here: http://www.trackerfit.co.uk/smartrack-trident.html for good prices (first site will pricematch +5% off from the second so you can get it installed for less than both using that trick).

I was doing quite a bit of research on what to get before I did and I don't think there is much to differentiate between various brands other than it being a Cat6 or Cat5 tracker (check to see which the insurer needs as a minimum), so I went for the best long term solution at a reasonable price point. If a thief is hell bent on taking your car then no tracker will come in his way - as others have mentioned you can get jammers that will block the signal.

However, from what I hear, thieves usually take the car and dump it for a few days to make sure the car hasn't got a tracker installed. This is where the tracker would be most effective.
