Newbie here with some BMW content!

Evening, thought I'd say hello from a fellow F30 owner!

I thought I'd give a bit of my BMW history I always wanted a 3 series and back in 2005 I got my hands on my first BMW an e46 318ci OK it was slow but I really enjoyed it for a couple of years and was a nice introduction to the brand

After a stint in a couple of Honda S2000's I decided to get back with the German boys and bought myself a very nice e90 325i M Sport, I loved this car the engine was so refined perhaps a bit too refined but nothing that a cheeky little airbox modification couldn't sort out to release some lovely straight 6 sound

Then the wife got pregnant so in my infinite wisdom bought her a practical family car and bought this for me

Awesome engine and an absolute blast with the roof down which it was down a lot! Quick car this and a bit ham fisted if I'm being totally honest but fun all the same!

Then the F30 came out and I had to have one so treated myself to a new 320d M Sport

A great car so much more modern than the e90 in every way a massive step forward, the only thing was I just couldn't totally get on with the 20d engine, so I decided to treat myself to another new F30, the one I really wanted in the first place a 330d M Sport with a couple of options, xenons and the wheels

so that's a bit about my BMW history if anybody is interested or not!

Look forward spending a bit of time on here!

Cheers

Broncho

My 325i was a dream too. The engine was turbine smooth.

My history is much the same....

Welcome! Good car history

How did the Z4M compare with the S2000s that you had?

Had an E91 325i and loved the smoothness of the engine. Hated the lack of torque though , overtaking needing it dropping a few years and plenty of revs thrown at it, bacame very annoying.

Welcome Broncho, cool intro and car history pics, nice work.

Quick few questions to all new members.

Do you live in Cheshire?
What are your thoughts on Greece?
Thoughts on Diesels?

Don't worry, that post was too much about actual cars and BMWs to be Nick!

Being totally honest I preferred the S2000, it was lighter and much more nimble although very slippery when wet! The engine is fantastic but does need to be stirred to get the best from it however the gearbox made it a pleasure, definitely not an every day car though.

The Z4M on paper should have been absolutely awesome unfortunately for me it fell short of that, I said it was ham fisted and really for me that's how it is best described, the gearbox was a pain in the arse and the suspension left a lot to be desired unless fettled with but that engine.....

Funnily enough a friend came round today to show me his new to him e92 325i and I'd forgotten just how gutless they are and this is from an ex S2000 owner, I suppose I'm just used to piles of torque now.

Cheers Broncho that's interesting. I'm looking at weekend fun cars for road and some track use and they're both in my thoughts. I'd heard that before about the Z4M. I'm not averse to some modifying though... What fettling and how much did it help? I'd heard the ride was very hard? I really do fancy having a car with that engine though but not sure I want an E46 M3.

I didn't fettle mine but I know people who did and the suspension changes made it the car it should've been.

I tracked my first S2000 a few times but not the Z4M, I think the thing for me was that I was using the Z4 for commuting not just as a weekend toy which is probably where the car is best being honest.

Both the S2000 and the Z4M are both marmite cars, I loved the S2000s and liked the Z4M, it was still an awful lot of fun though.

Thanks. Any idea what the best mods were?
I'm mulling over options at the moment but thinking either to swap the wife's mini for an E91 M3 and run two cars. Or give the wife my 335d, opt back in to the company car scheme for work, and then have a pure weekend toy... Decisions deductions!

Lots of people upgrade the suspension to aftermarket coilovers etc, this is the best modification from what I've read also removing the CDV and a CSL esq airbox, I suppose the list is endless.

If I had my time again I'd have bought the 987 Boxster S I was considering at the time.

Yeah that's another on the list! I drove a friends on the ring a few years back and immediately understood why they were so loved!
Anyways, it's 6 cylinder diesel fun for just now!
