Fail
Went to put on my winter wheels today. One of the nuts beat me - I couldn't budge it - totally bent my extending Halfords wheel wrench in trying

I think your tool is the problem, others have had it break on first use:

If you're wanting to swap wheels your self get some proper kit to do it, best choice you'll ever make. I made that decision after trying to loosen a nut, mangling it and breaking the tool... next day with help of a decent tool it came off on the first try with absolutely no drama, despite being a bit of a mess. I felt like a bit of a tit.
You want a good hex head (i.e. tight and deep fit as any play will damage the nuts ), breaker bar, torque wrench, and a trolley jack. The Halfords torque wrench is very good, about £80 when i bought it, but don't be tempted to use it to try and loosen a but; get a separate breaker bar. It makes the job so much quicker and easier, and for about £150-£200 you can get all the kit that'll last. |

Avoid lubricating the bolt if at all possible. Once lubricated the dry torque settings for re tightening up the bolts afterwards will be invalid.
Get a decent breaker bar. I have a 2' one that does the job with ease. Another vote for the Halfords Torque wrench. It's done me well so far.

Haha, the tool. Took mine back after a failed attempt - mine weren't even over tightened!

don't think I have ever heard of this happen when a proper tool was used, if anything the nut would shear it's head long before a decent tool would bend.
as my grandfather always said, never buy poo tools. a strong arm with the correct socket and a solid extension bar will remove any nut known to man, especially on a f series only upto 3 years old! |

I use the brace that came with my trolley jack, also came with the long reach double ended socket bits, all for £48!
https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clar...rofile-trolle/ And I've got the Silverline torque wrench which is great for £20! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-6...+torque+wrench Also this looks like a great breaker bar for under £13! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-600mm...CGQGT3MGYDXJAM |

I usually use a impact gun to remove the nut, then slowly impact it back in when the winters are on, and torque it to specs when its on the ground.

Get a plastic sleeved socket which will protect the alloy if you slip. I have a draper torque wrench which is around d £30 and a breaker bar which takes the strain out of loosening the nuts. £50-60 for the 3 items.
