Is this mileage discrepancy for a bmw dealer? baffled and need help!

I recently bought a 2015 318d m sport saloon from a dealer, it was advertised as only been driven 2104 miles and on the mileage certificate it was 2104 as well.

Yes I trusted them and didn't check when I drove it back the first day, but still they should've told me that the car has been driven for another 500 miles more! the mileage on the car is actually 2690!

I contacted the dealer but they said it was normal for things like this to happen.
when the car was in preparation someone in the company might have driven it.

WHAT????

I thought once a car has been put on sale it's a commodity, a product, and a thing that company stuff should avoid using it and keep it as is at least.

dealer told actually you are a man of details, most of the buyers won't even care because it is such a new car.

I am baffled. Is this the case? what shall I do?

In French this is called "taking the piss".

Were you lubed before the salesman bent you over?

Did you agree to buy the car without seeing it first? Did you see the mileage when you bought it and agreed the sale? What does the sale agreement say? What do the t&c's say? How long have you had it?

I am going with,"You should have looked" but then what you saw on paper may mean you shouldn't have had to!

I think the difference in value between the car with or without that extra 500 miles is minimal, but I would still want to know what happened. Did they misread the mileage, or have they used it after selling it to you? In the first case, it's not such a big deal and perhaps they could make some minor goodwill gesture. In the second, it is completely unacceptable from my POV - they should not be using a sold car for their own transport.

well I saw the car before I bought it and it was the same day I drove it back; however i didn't notice that the mileage was different because the certificate was saying 2104. but when I got home it was 2690.

I have to read the sales agreement and T&C to tell you but not at hand right now.

I've had it for just 4 days.
I guess I just need to be compensated for some service, I won't go into the long argument with them as long as they'd do something for me actually.

Thanks for the support, exactly what I am thinking; not the value, but the behaviour was unacceptable. shall I ask for some compensation like some services? I am not trying to be cheeky it is just unacceptable at least bmw does something to show your apologies

I think you should have checked but hindsight is great, and I don't think I would have checked either.

At a BMW main dealer you shouldn't have to check the accuracy of their documentation, IMO they should have informed you the car had done an extra 500 miles since it was advertised and the mileage check was done.

Was it a demonstrator?. I know they run them while advertising them. We bought a 3GT that change between the advert and pick up day.

Was it a demo car?

Or

It could have come in and they needed a loaner for a customer if it still had some rent on the screen they may have given it out rather than tieing up a demo car

Most demo cars are advertised MOA to avoid such a situation. You could have a moan and see if you get an umbrella or a free service or a suitable goodwill gesture. It's not great but it's 500 miles. There are lots of disclaimers about the mileage being correct so doubt you have much to fall back on apart from goodwill

From the new detail you have posted (you saw and bought it on the same day), it sounds like the extra mileage was there before you saw the car, which at least means that the condition you saw it in was same as the condition when you bought it. It also sounds like they didn't continue using it after it was sold, which makes this less bad.

However, the attitude of the dealer would really annoy me too. I would ask to speak to the Dealer Principal about this, and would hope that he would offer you a gesture, worth perhaps £1-200. I would also take the opportunity to mark the dealer down heavily in the BMW Customer Satisfaction Survey which they will ask you to complete. That hurts them in the pocket as they are paid for good service.

We knew the mileage would change before collection, but wasn't bother as it had a service pack.

If you bought on a pcp and you want the start mileage to be right you don't really want a 500 mile head start

I think when buying a demo car, I'd be relaxed about the extra 500 miles. It'll just be that little bit more run in.

This is true, I'd have hoped the finance papers would have the correct mileage. Even if the advert didn't.
