Brakes shot at 54,000?
My brake warning light came on yesterday and I know at the last service they did say the pads were almost shot. Surprises me at what I consider low kms. The car is off lease near end of dec. so I sure don't want to start paying for new rotors and pads. The inspection was done last week and no issues with the car so this would be the only one. Well and the fact I am 2000 km over allowed but I know they will waive that cost. Has anyone run into this brake issue? Thanks. Hniel

I had the brake warning at about the same mileage, but when inspected the pads had tons of wear left. Apparently if you use cruise control a lot, you will see additional wear on the rear brakes. Could that explain it?

Thanks for the comments. I never use cruise control but the dealer said yesterday the pads would be o0k until end of lease. Something about an early warning light. Have a good day and thanks again.

Just be careful with what they try and ding you for at the end of the lease. I had the brake light come on but on inspection there was almost no wear on the pads. I had to fight with BMW FS to get them to waive the charge for brakes.
My advice: get a service report from the dealer showing how much wear is left. I was able to send this to BMW FS as proof that the brakes were fine.

My rear brakes were shot at 32000KM. I now have 44000km and my senors are saying I have 24000km left on the fronts and 13000km left on the rears. How is that even possible, and no I dont use cruise control at all.

Currently at 46k. Vehicle Status brake pad sensors say 36k left on both front and rear for the past 16k (said that back when I got the brake sensors reset by the dealer with 30k on the car). Inspection report from the dealer said 10mm in the front, 8mm in the rear - this was Friday.
Still plenty to go. Mind you I drive quite aggressively as well. So my advice would be to get the dealer to reset/calibrate the brake pad wear sensors - CBS data correction. |

go to an independent repair shop. Change the pads if the rotors are okay. Reset computer. You have a viable repair with invoice. They cannot ding you for it.
