Lease end inspection

Is this inspection by an independent company mandatory? While I went through the same with my 2010 335 prior to going off lease I just find it's an annoyance for me now with my 2013 335i sport lease ending in December. Scheduling the appointment with a 4 hour window for them to show also locks me into committing that time. Appreciate any recommendations and thoughts.

I'm not a 100% sure but I think the lease inspection is more for your benefit so that you get an independent report. that way if the dealer or BMW comes back at you with issues you have that report to fallback on.. also the report will allow you some time to get an issue resolved if there is a snag.

Whether it's mandatory I'm not 100% sure...

Thanks for the comment. I figure the car is almost perfect except for a couple of small road chips. After a recent service they said the brakes were almost ready for replacement which surprised me with only 52k on the car but I figure that's normal wear. Hopefully they can be a little more specific in the time when I set up the inspection.

It's is mandatory. They are flexible in you coming to home or your work location. They use that report to validate there are no issues with the car. Will make your life easier

lease inspection is 100% your benefit. They will tell you if there's any part of the car that needs fixing and give you enough time to get it fixed.

if you return a car with things that need fixing....BMW will fix it and bill you whatever the amount...and there's nothing you can do or say at that point, its out of your hands.

Also, you should do a drop off inspection when you turn in your lease. The dealership will load up the car and send it to where it needs to go, but they are not responsible for any damage that happens along the way. So if you return the car in mint condition and they scratch it up without a drop off inspection, you'll have to pay for those damages.

Funny story - I did not do a return inspection prior to returning my car. I got a bill for $1k in damages from Infiniti. The scratches were legit, some were small, i wasnt sure if they'd be "waived" or not. I called up IFS and gave them some sob story about not being able to pay.......3 days later i got a revised bill, damages waived.
