WTB: Snow tires/All seasons
Yes, I am the moron who bought a RWD sports car as his only vehicle but lives in a state where it snows 4 months out of the year. I'm also the moron who got his car with the staggered performance tire option (the super sports). Winter is approaching so I am not in a rush, just putting a feeler out there if anyone has a set of cheap snow tires or good all seasons that will get me through the winter. Not really trying to pay an arm and a leg for tires but I understand the BMW tax that goes on everything.

Get yourself some good ol' Conti DWS or their newer DWS06
I drove with the Original DWS on my RWD Cadillac STS for 2yrs in NYC/NJ made a huge difference in the winter and rain. Swapped my OEM RFT on my current X3 and slapped on some DWS as well and wow this past winter 94 miles home on the highway covered snow storm, I was 1 of the few cars driving on the 3rd lane at 70-75 in order to make it home safer than following other cars at 50mph in the middle lane. Total years of usage: 3 Cars Tested: 2

I say go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 if you can. I used to have the Conti DWS on another car and felt that the sidewall was too soft IMO, though not sure how it compares to the new DWS06.

Also seen on TireRack Reviews, since you're in Virginia don't think the same amount of snow in PA/NYC/NJ is comparable to your location. So you would prob be fine with A/S 3

And everything around my area is plowed almost immediately anyway, so if I can drive through slush and/or a little bit of snow while still being as close to a summer tire as possible, I'll be happy. |

Thanks for the help guys! I'm looking to buy something used whether that be a wheel and tire set or just a set of tires that will fit the stock wheels. Good info though.

Shipping would be roughly an additional $160 to PA.

I've had RWD 6spd BMWs in our winters before. They're better off than most other cars on the road when blizzaks are mounted up. I'm also currently looking for some winters since my previous 17" winters dont fit |
