Anyone here used Falken Eurowinter tires?
These seem to be the bargain option in a performanceish winter tire - 225/40-18s from DiscountTireDirect are only $107 each, free shipping, and a $50 mail-in rebate on top. V-speed rating, and reviews I can find for them online (mostly UK) seem to be pretty good. I'm in Maine, so a winter tire is a necessity, but I won't drive this car when the roads are bad, I have an old Range Rover for that sort of thing (and my snow-tire shod 328i Touring). So I plan to stick to 18" and a tire optimized more for cold dry roads.
I'm really a bit annoyed. Discount Tire has these tires at a great price, but their wheel selections suck. Tire Rack has good wheel options, but their tire options are $$$ and they charge the earth for shipping. I would really rather order a package all mounted, balanced, and delivered to my door, but getting it all from Tire Rack ends up in the $1800 range. Looks like I will end up getting wheels from Tire Rack, tires from Discount Tire, and having the mounting done locally.

A lot of people here in Sweden drives with Nokian hackapelita winter tires due to them being designed for Swedish winter and therefor extremely good in our conditions. I have heard different things about Falken Winter Tires. Some say they are very sensitive for "Track mark build up" What i mean with that is if the asphalt is torn and there is deep track marks from cars they tend to be sensitive when driving in those track marks. Might give you a feeling of no control even though you have full control.
As shown in the picture bellow where the rain goes like a stream in the asphalt. Try to avoiding those track build up with falken tires or with any tires for that matter. Those marks have a tendency to give you higher MPG, Tear and wear on the tires increases. And again gives you a sens of something messing with your steering. Other then that i think falken might be a very good choice for the winter. |

Thanks for the feedback! I did order them, and MSW Type 86s to put them on. Wheels arrived today, tires should be along shortly. M235i will be a while, it left Bremerhaven yesterday...
Not much in the way of that sort of rut in the road around here luckily. But nice Saab 9-3 Combi, that is what my '11 328i wagon replaced. Mine was Polar White on Parchment, and I still miss it, much as I love the 328i!
