Upgrade from 2012 328i to 2015 328xi
I'm thinking about doing it... what am i getting besides x-drive, the new NAV with improved graphics and the touchpad? Also thinking of getting a white one instead of my current black since black is sooooooooooo hard to maintain.
Thoughts? |

I thought about the my2016... but the 2015 will be a better deal fiscally speaking. I'd be getting a used one with a few thousand kms on it.

I'd do the same. Find a RWD car and save another 4k if you can. I've driven at least a dozen BMW models ranging from 1997 to 2015. Great cars to drive. You'll be happy in a 2015.

enjoy your RWD BMW. One of the last of breed. I wouldn't switch from 2012 to 2015. Car is too similar. Why spend so much on the same car except for features. I would want a generational change to the G20 (next 3 series) or a C class, XE Jag or upcoming A4.
if you really have a RWD 328i, put a few thousand to update things (exhaust, suspension, tune, audio). Beats throwing 10K+ on a 2015 |

Depends if you can find one for a good price and if you can get a good price for your existing car. But the cars will be so similar the financial hit, IMO, is only be justified if you really need those new features.
Personally I'd wait for a redesign or spend some money upgrading/protecting my existing car so it feels new again. |

Best I could finagle was a 2015 xi black sapphire metallic with 20,000kms, premium package and connected drive.
Dealer wants $16950 + my car (all in)... |

Lol mister Internet guy, you said it depended on whether or not I could find one for a good price and if I could get a good price for your existing car. Doesn't this deal tick both of those boxes?

In terms of ride quality, yes it's not really going to improve that much but considering that his 2012 is worth around 26k and almost has no warranty left, I would say it's worth the $16k for the upgrade for the extra peace of mind. I went with a 2016 because I wanted the standard LED headlights and tail lights M Sport, the new NBT EVO Nav system and the updated design. I'm also leasing and I always want the latest model so it works out better for me that way.

Then you presented a deal you were offered and I thought it was a bad deal and dealership probably stands to make a lot of money from you and gave you my 2 cents. I'm sorry if you were simply expecting some kind of moral encouragement to help convince yourself you're making the right choice. It's your disposable income, not mine, so don't let me stop you from doing something you apparently already decided on. |

Just trying to be honest, apologies if I came off as standoffish. A good used example of 2015 328xi probably can be had for about $40k from dealers, which means you're getting just under $24k for your car, which they will turn around and sell for $30k.
You can significantly close this gap if you go with the private sale/private buy route, which will probably reduce your out of pocket payment to 10k or less. The dealer is getting an awesome deal from you because you're giving them a lot of money to take a car off their hands + your own car which they can then sell again for even more profit. Unless you simply don't care or if there's something wrong with your car that makes it hard to sell privately, I think the dealer can do better for you. |
