Illuminated door sills?
Anybody know if the oem M Perf. illuminated door sills are made for the 2er?
For the F3x the part number is 51472359786. Some places are saying it is also for F20, which could mean it fits the F22. If someone has these, please let me know. #2 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9384

I put these on last week. Always thought the lighted door sills added a little touch of class and was a nice look upon entering the vehicle. I emailed Brian at Sun Motors and he confirmed that they have these for the 2er. Part number is #51472361172. Price shipped was $230. I think they look great, but was hoping they would look like some of the other M performance sills I have seen where the stripes light up as well. On these, only the M Permormance lettering is illuminated. Install was pretty straight forward, but the magnet placement that activates the battery powered sills was kind of a pain in the azz. Hard to get some good photos, but here is the best I could do. Let me know if you have any questions.

Here are the ones from the 3 series that I was hoping ours would look like. I like these a little better with the stripes that light up also...........

I agree! Is there a part number for that style for our cars?

Not sure if there is. You could always check with Brian at Sun Motor Cars and see if he can find out for you. He is pretty helpful. His email is bkeller@sunmotorcars.com They usually have the lowest prices.

I think that style might not me made for the 2 series yet... And I doubt the F3x one will fit.

Do you mind posting a couple more pics of that sill you have? Maybe from standing distance when it's on and when it's off?

For the F22 you have two options as far as I know: - 51472361172 (M performance illuminated door sills) - 51472361160 (BMW illuminated door sills) More info here: http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/sele...71/51472361160

They come with some instructions, although they are pretty lousy ones. It is fairly straightforward though. They even provide a thin wooden pry tool to pry up the existing sills. The wooden tool didn't work too well for me, so used a plastic trim removal tool that I had. It's pretty much just pry the existing ones up and pull off ( held in by 5 or 6 clips) and then press the new ones in. The hard part was locating the magnets on the underside of the door. It needs to be lined up exactly in order to align with the spot on the sill that activates it. Lots of trial and error. I still need to secure the magnets better to make sure they don't come off.

I was a little confused by the instructions and didn't want to hack up my new car, so I left the tabs intact. I did remove the plug or clip that was holding the tab directly beneath the battery location on the sill. My sills do have a slight "hump" where the tab is pushing up the sill a little bit. It is hardly noticeable though. I might pull the sills up and trim the tabs if it bugs me too much.

What do they hook up to for power? is there an existing plug or do we have to splice into somewhere to get the power?
EDIT: found the answer to my question, they are powered by battery. time to order |

hmmm I wonder if the illuminated door sill unit is easy to take apart so that we could possibly machine out the stripes so they light up...depending on how strong the light source is underneath and its overall construction.
