F80 LCI tailllight retrofit

Now that MY2016 cars have been delivered to customers, I'm sure the LCI taillights are available through the parts department. Anyone successfully install them? Do we need new harnesses and coding? Any info would be appreciated.

If you do that, get the euro versions.

Is the only difference between the euro LCI and U.S. LCI tail lights the amber colored turn signal? I actually prefer the all-red U.S. spec lights.

From what i can tell with the LCI, you no longer have the plastic amber portion in the rear tail light like you did pre LCI. It really cleans it up and makes it look like the all-red US spec unless the blinker is actually on.

I see. So, the euro-spec taillights now only illuminate amber, but look red when not in use? Nice!

Have any comparison pictures? I'm slightly confused.

Looks like it would be a total waste of money to "upgrade"...
And, no, they would not be plug and play conversion, they would need extra HW and possible software update to get rid of the warning lights.

What aesthetic modification isn't "a total waste of money" if you're just doing it for looks alone? At least you'd get the safer amber turn signals out of the swap.

I know on the GTI you could swap the standard bulb tail lights for factory (or factory rep) LEDs with just a plug and play harness adapter and then you coded out the bulb error. Just went in and told the car it was equipped with LED tail lights from the factory. That coding is likely not an option in this case.

So unless someone is making a harness adapter, it's unlikely to accomplish this without replacing the entire rear light harness, which I know won't be cheap and neither will the lights themselves. Probably be $1500-$2000 easy to do it and a good amount of dissassembly of the rear trim.

I do like amber turn signals though, much more eye catching.

The LCI tail lights are out. They will need to be coded. If you would like to purchase the wiring harness and tail light please give us a call or a pm.

It requires coding & a new harness for the inner lights. Installing mine once the harness arrives.

Here's some pics of it
