New M4 - Wrong Wheels from dealer

Hi all,

Long time member from my 335i days.

Anyway I have recently picked up my new M4 with pretty basic spec.
I was looking for the best deal so found a low spec car in stock and had my dealer pick that one up and get me a good price.
Worked well and I got a decent bit of discount.

Of the few options it came with, where the black wheels at £175.

When it cam to collecting the car, the wheels were in fact the non option silver wheels.
I didn't think to much about it at the time, being exciting to collect the car and drive it!

Now after a month of chasing the dealer, who in turn chased the supplying deal, in scotland I have involved BMW Customer services.

My question is what would you do or ask for in the situation.
Refund of the 175 seems the minimum?

And just as an aside, I have managed to curb one of the wheels already

Refund and a free refurb of your curbed wheel would be ideal!

Depends how much you really want the black wheels. If that's what you ordered, signed and paid for then that's what you should get.

If your signed deal said "black wheels" and on the car was the other ones, then at the point of delivery you should have made an agreement on what should be done, not after you drove off, then you curb one of the wheels, I wouldn't expect to much now since you already left the scene of the crime, per say. Also not sure the black wheels are step up price option anyway, thought was just a choice.

Once you drive car home its only about warranty now.

I actually have the ones you now have and like them.

Would expect the wheels corrected or a refund of the £185. The fact you've curbed them confuses the issues. I'd get chips away to sort it for perhaps £60 or so. I've got black wheels and they do look great but are more expensive to correct once curbed so much so that BMW don't offer wheel repair insurance on them.

That's interesting particularly as I assume you got yours from Lloyd in Newcastle as well and it was a definite "you can't have that as you've got black wheels'

I got the same thing from Barons too. Wouldnt supply it to me.

I wonder if they would foot the bill for a 3rd party to paint your wheels the way you want them (and in turn get the curbed fixed)
I really dont like the silver wheels (IMO) as they make the car look more ordinary/more like a regular 4 series.
I went for the cost option black ones. You could repair the silver and just keep pushing for the black ones, thats what id do

Good luck and congrats on the new car

Hmmm well that is strange, No I got mine from Coopers in Boldon. I'm currently actually trying to get booked in for a refurb as the Euro Train did some awful damage to one of my wheels so I will see what happens

If you contacted a car with specified black wheels option from the manufacture, you should get the black wheels from the dealer who sold you the car regardless if the original dealer who had it first change them or whatever. Looks like someone change and someone is responsible for that, but that someone is definitely not you.

Thanks for you input here guys.
I have requested a cash settlement to fund the powder coating of the wheels at my leisure.
I think its fair enough, as to order a new set of wheels would cost them a fair bit more.

I shall update when BMW make their mind up!

Seems like you could be letting your dealership off lightly here.

I would get BMW UK involved.

Agreed, get the correct wheels, if it's on the spec sheet, that's what needs to be supplied.

+ £195 or whatever the option is for the right wheels, I'm certain factory order wheels are better and more durable than a powder coated finish.?

You ordered a £60,000 item, its wrongly spec'd upon delivery (albeit mildly) they need to fix it.

Don't get me wrong I'm no pit bull in life but for this I'd be making the stand hell yes.
