Water pump shenanigans - Under 50k!
Under 50k miles, and the pump has raised it's white flag and gave up... I was on my street when the high temp light came on, and iDrive threw it's message up on the screen. Got it shutdown in my driveway about 15 seconds after the light came on
I was driving home from work, only a short drive away, and I was just putting home. No previous warning signs (Like everyone else pretty much). I just miss my car and can't wait to get back on the road. It's still BS that these pumps are ticking time bombs from day 1, with an unknown amount of time on the clock. I think I jinxed it by commenting on Jeff@Topgearsolutions (I'm 99% sure it was him) saying how their 335 had it's pump go at a real low mileage (High 30's I think!?).

My water pump went out yesterday. The car is at 78K miles so I guess it lasted longer than most. Funny thing is the coolant level was a little low when I checked so I'm thinking that triggered it.

Anyone purchase the water pump / thermostat kit from Turnermotorsports?... I'm about 1 click anyway from buying it.

Mine was just replaced yesterday. 56k miles on the clock (damn BMW is good at design for warranty life). I bought the extended warranty primarily because of the water pump issues on these cars. Fortunately I caught it before it stranded me though. I noticed some weird activity from the radiator fan which started me hunting.
One piece of advice/warning for those with a JB4. If you have auto-clear turned on (option 1/3) then you may miss the warning sign codes that will present themselves. I was getting some of the "shadow codes" that can be read but will not throw a light which warned of imminent water pump failure. Had I not caught one by chance before the auto-clear killed it I may have had a nice tow truck ride in my future. Bottom line is, listen to your radiator fan and if it starts behaving oddly (running on and off when it never did before) then turn off auto-clear and pull codes after a drive.
