Stock lighting alternatives

Want to swap the stock halogen bulbs on my F30 and not looking to go xenon at the moment. Ive been looking into the following and need some advice as to whether these would give any dash errors.

Headlights H/L H7 - Osram Cool Blue Intense 4200K
Fogs H8 - Osram Cool Blue Intense 4200K
Parking Lights W5W - Osram Cool Blue Intense 4000K
Indicators PY21W - Osram Diadem (with blue pearl tint)
or Philips Silvervision Chrome

As for the DRLs, as far as Im aware, the only ones at the moment to replace the stock PW24W bulb are the CREE LEDs. Looking to purchase a set of 30W ones from HorizonLEDs. Do these need the resistor kit or will they flicker or show any dash warnings?

Just need some confirmation before pressing the "BUY" button, that all of these will be a plug and play procedure.

Im also open to any other suggestions for the lights as long as all of them are the same colour (apart from the DRLs which are 6000K I think). I dont mind these since these go off when the other lights go on at night.

Unfortunately no option to turn these off and dont want to get into coding either.

Thanks

Hey man,

If you are going to spend some money on your lighting, go with LEDs all around, you won't regret it. My friends & I changed all of the Halogens on our cars to LEDs. The will exceed all of your expectations. Some videos that will hopefully be helpful.

For the headlights I have aswell the Osram cool blue ones. They are a little bit whiter than the stock ones. No LED so no dash error possible here.

Attention, parking lights is WRONG. Its H6W and I would upgrade to LED. I have this one without issues:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-seri...item3a9cee17f2

Indicators, I have the philips silvervision chome. And it looks much better than stock. No LED so no dash error possible here.

DRL with canbus error free will not show any failure code. Maybe you just need to code off the cold & warm monitoring of the bulbs if they flicker at startup or all 4 to 5 minutes.

thx for the reply man but in my country the laws are quite strict on lighting so I guess 3200 lumens is out of the question. and apart from that I assume leds will need either coding or a resistor to work without errors right?

No knowledge of a Halogen equipped BMW, but on my friend's 2015 Volvo V40, they gave no errors, as well as my other friend's 2015 GMC Yukon. When I installed the 3200's in my fogs, I got no errors but I needed to code out the checks to stop the light blinking on it's own, and I had to get a Canbus cable from Horizon to stop the car from turning one off and keeping the other on. They have a 30% sale going on some 2500lm LEDs.

Its written in your manual aswell (Page 210). Bulb replacement -> Parking lights

You do not need to check, the information regarding the parking light is wrong in the first link.

They are not canbus error free. At least I did not find any information about that. So I assume they work but you will get an error. You have to code the cold & warm monitoring "OFF" then it should work without errors.

I think 25W is too much (& too big) and it may not fit in the housing. Also you will get dash errors because the cold/warm monitoring will check the ampere output and for 25W its 2,08A. But it should be 0,5A for 6W. Even if its canbus error free - the power output is a big difference.

Better get lights with 6 Watts.

Wow wow, the lights work perfectly and fit the housing perfectly. All you have to do is turn off the coding checks. I currently have the 50w's installed and they are amazing.

I assume to turn off the coding checks you need E-Sys and a cable. I have been speaking to someone who said any connections with the OBD to code will void the warranty.Any idea if thats true?

Haha I don't think that's true. Once a person at the dealership tried telling me changing the bulbs to LED would void the whole car's warranty

Andy_Neophytou,

Realizing that I am in US, but take a look at the attached. I call it my Bulb card. Have compiled info on most exterior bulbs.

I have changed out my OEM halogen DRLs, headlights, foglights, rear turn & back up lights -- for the rear turn, back up & DRLs did have to a little coding.

All in all worth the ffort.

Hope the bulb card helps!

Hi RSnic. Was actually looking at the bulb card yesterday in another thread. pretty useful info but I already ordered the lights and the first set came yesterday. went with Halogens 4200K for high/low beams and fogs, Silvervisions for indicators and LED for DRLs and parking lights.

Andy_Neophytou,

Great, glad you found it!

I think that if you stay in the 4000-4800K ("paper white") range for headlights & foglights, you'll get better range and there will be more "light" visible. On the other hand, because Daylight Running Lights are there to make car more noticeable (and range is not that important), 6000-6500K ("blue-white") is fine
