Houston suspension choice
Curious to see what Houstonians think of their suspension and wheel choice after having lived with it for a while.
I drove an M4 with the passive suspension today. Up in the Woodlands on 45 and the frontage road. I have to say...it felt damn rough. Of course, I have no idea what the tire pressures were, but it was riding on 19's. All the cars I've driven to date have the active suspension, and I think it's well worth it. What say you? Are 19's and the active suspension an ok fit for Houston? Thanks! |

I have no experience yet as I have yet to get my car. I did order mine with 18's just to be on safe side. Also have adaptive suspension.

I have finally settled on my settings. I leave the suspension in Comfort, even in M1 mode where I have the throttle and steering set to Sport. For M2, I have everything at Sport+ with MDM off. Too scared to turn TC off at the moment.
At $1000, the adaptive suspension should be a must-buy for everyone.

I have no problem with the ride of this car in my DD. I take it to work, the gym, and up to the Woodlands to see my family. I have never thought it was rougher than it needed to be.

Adaptive and 19s here. My DD settings are sport, comfort, sport (throttle, suspension, steering) and it's right where I want it. I can't imagine being without the adaptive suspension on our roads.

I get along with the standard suspension with no problems at all.

18's on standard. The extra thickness (40) on the 18s help absorb a lot of bumps. Suspension wise I have no complaints. Very compliant for Houston rodes IMO.

I wonder if 18's on the adaptive would be superb. I do "like" the 19's but don't "love" them. Then again, they are a fairly cheap upgrade vs. a full set of something like HRE's, BBS's, etc. Sounds like adaptive is a must on 19's, though. |

I am currently running stock 18's with the active suspension. The ride is good in both the comfort and sport settings.
I had a 2013 335i prior to this car lowered on h&r super sports with the dynamic handling package and can say that the ride is similar. the stock m3 suspension cracks much less over bumps than my lowered 335. I will be upgrading to a set of 19's shortly. I like the look of the 19's much better. thee is too much sidewall with the 18's. the car looks to much like a toy car. |

I finally have mine now with 18's and active suspension. The ride is very compliant and smooth even over bumps and crappy Houston streets. Have the car in sport mostly too. I will be keeping the 18's, love the looks of the wheels and the ride is perfect for me. Plus, I like the fact that the 18's are much more rare on these cars.

I have EDC with 19's and have no complaints. I use comfort 99% of the time, but am considering going with "Eibach F8X M3/M4 Pro-Kit Performance Spring Set" when I get wheels later this year. I imagine this will sacrifice a bit of ride quality, but it shouldn't be much worse.

Current wheel size + an inch or two. E.g., 18" --> 20". I will stick with 19s, though.

19"s with active and always in comfort mode as a DD and perfectly fine (considering how crappy indeed our streets are!). Had these in mind when I choose and def do not regret it.
