Ottawa / Brake replacement.
I have to replace my rear brake pads, rotors and sensor.
when replacing those parts, does it have to come from BMW? or Can i get as good parts at a cheaper cost? if so can anybody suggest anything? i'm considering doing the front ones at the same time, depends on the price, but estimate I got from dealer is about $1000 Last edited by N-Y; 05-29-2015 at 07:58 PM.. |

Is that parts and labour? I believe pads and sensors alone for us in the GTA are pretty cheap. Don't remember exactly, but it's definitely under $400. I believe it was like 2xx or just over $300.
Do your rotors need to be replaced? Unless they are warped, I believe BMW considers them "lifetime". |

Zimmerman is the normal OE rotor http://www.autopartsway.ca/partlist..../pagenum1/tabs Textar is one of the OE brake pads As for brake wear sensors, you will need this too. If you get your local mechanic to do the job, it should be around $200 labor at most to install. Therefore, you are still nowhere at $1000+ as your local dealer wants. Or you can travel to Toronto to get the same job done, there are a few recommended mechanic here that have a very fair pricing for their labor. Including my mechanic. If you are buying in the GTA, there are bmw dealers willing to give about 20% discount on OEM parts (Maranello and Pfaff Mississauga bmw). The non bmw retail shop that sell OE parts include: https://www.facebook.com/Germanpartsca They run special on bmw parts every so often. If you need them urgently, you can ask for a bit of discount and they normally would give when asked. Last edited by bobblehead; 06-01-2015 at 09:01 AM.. |

brake pads - generally, bmw oem uses either textar (more common), trw (more common) and bosch (less common now)
rotors - zimmerman is considered as OE, closest to OEM. Generally, it's just slightly cheaper than BMW OEM rotors. As who makes the BMW OEM rotors ? There are Balo (not so common now), ATE (more common), Brembo (more so on the M performance line) and Zimmerman. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/t-br...fferences.aspx http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_1970 http://www.r1concepts.com/category/c...FZEBaQodF0QAXg If you are going to order them online thru any reseller, please call in and ask question as to what are the right parts for your vehicle. Alternatively, you can discuss/talk to your local mechanic shop and let him order the parts for you, in this way, you can be sure if any issue arises, the parts can be returned by your mechanic without cost to you. here is another local GTA european parts shop supplier you can call. Note: the site is difficult to look for stuff. Better to call and find out. |

Just called in. Discounted dealer pricing for rear M Sport pads (blue calipers) is $140 and $40 for the sensors. Non M Sport brake models are probably a bit cheaper (maybe $10?). Front will be a little bit more.
I've been happy with oem pads - I think I'll order a set to keep on hand. |
