Off Topic: Ford Focus RS and a bit of Mustang
Was looking at Fords this morning and noticed some blurb starting to come out about the New RS.
Also noticed gradually getting firmer details on the Mustang. http://www.tch.co.uk/upload/files/Fo..._Pricelist.pdf For those that are tempted... http://www.tch.co.uk/upload/files/At...ation_Form.pdf IF Ford get some realistic discounts or deals going, I will be very tempted by either, however the Focus RS AWD looks like it could be excellent. I hate to use the word Classic... However.... |

I know it's not about performance numbers but it's the same to 60 as a 335d and that's for the 5.0!!
I think they look ok, I am sure they will sounds amazing etc etc but personally I don't see the appeal but you seem to get a lot of car for the price! GBR1 |

It just proves just how amazing the 335d is though, especially the Tourer. There is a bit of difference in weight and a huge difference in VED lol. However I do think the RS is looking great. |

I tell you what though, the 335d is fantastic, but I bet half the people that drive one against the other will love the ford more
It's not all about 0-60 times, I'll choose my ST over my 330d on a backroad any day of the week, on a motorway however... I feel the 335d is such a well rounded machine it's lost its appeal and become too 'german' and too 'perfect' to have any character or quirks - stuff that, for me, makes me love a car rather than like it. Still...mustang makes no sense in the UK, RS all the way for me....OR the new type R Andy |

We usually have a big car and small car. So it's not really a direct choice between the two. More of a big ford 'smaller' BMW Big BMW 'smaller' Ford. Not sure would even consider the Focus for long trips to Scotland - unless mid winter- even then the 330d would be better. Definitely need to change the mondeo this year. |

The £1100 VED will be first year only, the FRS will be £285 after that, and with 350bhp out the box and a probable 400bhp+ with a mountune kit and still have a Ford warrenty, it is tempting. I did consider one myself as it has a reworked engine that's in my MPS that's also running close to 400bhp and it's alot of fun, reliable too as with all that extra power it's still going strong with 108k miles.

Sounds a bit disappointing to be honest. Given that the (old) Mondeo was arguably as fine a handling car as a 3 series (granted new one is apparently a bit softer), I had high hopes for the Euro Mustang.

Hopefully with feedback, some sloppyness will be sorted. Yes both the Focus and Mondeo are great to drive, however the Mondeo is a bit of a monster to throw about, good practice for the Mustang lol. |

I think though that as the Mondeo and Focus have been globalised, their "edge" in terms of handling prowess has been dulled somewhat, which is rather disappointing. The reviews I read of the latest Fusion based Mondeo seemed to infer that the handling is no longer the class leader that it once was. I kinda got a similar impression with the latest Focus too.
Seems to me that they need to further differentiate the chassis settings by market, and improve testing in different markets, the UK in particular. If I understand correctly more of the R&D has been moved to the US, and I can't help feeling that is a mistake.

Yeah same. Our other car is a MK4 Mondeo (2007) with variable dampers (blamanche, normal and sport). On sport it's great to drive and handles most situations, a BMW 3.0l diesel would have been great in the platform. A car released for UK roads / handling just does not seem to be appreciated elsewhere.. |
