Power steering pump question
I replaced my power steering pump this weekend after the previous pump failed and I was left with no power steering. After installing the new pump (remanufactured part) and turning the car on, I turned the wheel lock to lock a few times to bleed the system as recommended. Even after the "self bleed" the pump has a very loud whine that fluctuates with rpms. The power steering is back and the wheel turns easily, but the noise is horrible when I rev/drive.
So.... Is this loud whining a bad replacement part? Or is there another issue such as air trapped in the system? Any help would be very helpful. Thanks. |

Thanks for the reply. I payed 200 for a remanufactured one and the oem ones are like $600 so I went with the more affordable one.
The power steering works very well it's just really loud |

Possible, but the system should bleed on its own once you start the car and turn the steering.
You're describing the noise as "horrible", if you have air in the PS system, the noise will be minimal and rpms should not have an effect. Check the belt and see if you installed everything properly. |

Also, when I turn full lock it makes kind of a clicking noise when it's being held tight right or left. Whines all the time, and is most noticeable when starting from a stop in first

You still have air in the system. All connections are tight? Jack the front up and turn the wheel all the way from left to right and vice versa until the whine is gone. This may take some time. Check for leaks and check fluid level while bleeding.

"Horrible" may be a bit harsh. But there is definitely a persistent whine that fluctuates with engine speed and it was not as loud with the previous failing pump.
What purpose does raising the front up before turning the wheel to bleed air out? |
