use M1 0w40 for oil change?

I had planned to do an oil change this weekend with a friend and his e92. I have everything but the bmw 5w30. I stop at dealer and they are out of stock?? Bozarre. I obviously don't have to change it but I also used M1 0w40 in all prior bmw so thinking about using the M1.

Any thoughts?

Hehehhe. What do you want? An Internet dialogue on your oil choice?

Been there, done that, got the oil analyses.

So now my answer is: sure

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Ok then! I was just hoping to hear any results as I can't find any analysis specs of the new bmw 5w30 oil to compare. If m1is a ton thicker or something I would have waited. I'll go for it! One guy said it made his car sliwer! Hey just doing due diligence!

I just changed my car at 5k with M1 0w-40. I checked the levels via i-drive and have been monitoring the temps - basically in line w/ the factory fill to date.

The new M1 0w40 is no longer LL-01 certified FYI.

Have they changed the formula or they just don't pay for the certification?

Both. Although meeting the certification spec takes more than $

Thanks much for the heads up, obviously I've been under a rock and didn't even know M1 wasn't doing LL01 anymore. I think it's still fine for the mid-cycle oil changes but I think I'll begrudgingly switch to castrol or another LL01 approved oil and save the M1 for the Audi
