Maintenance/Warranty Transfer

Can somebody make me smart with the process of transferring the factory warranty and BMW maintenance program to a new owner?

Thanks in Advance!

It stays with the car, there's no transfer necessary. If the car is within the warranty period, it's covered as long as the warranty hasn't been voided previously (like due to mods or branded title, etc).

I have read where BMW is not transferring warranties and maintenance programs to 2nd owners anymore. Trying to get some clarification sans BMW legalese.

I literally just got off the phone with a BMW dealership to inquire about a 4 wheel alignment. Work done under warranty is not covered by the warranty for the new owner. It's non transferable.

Unless there has been a recent change, wheel alignment isn't covered by the warranty/maintenance program even for original owners.

I know. I should have specified that my alignment question was separate from the warranty question. I understand alignment is not covered under a warranty. That being said, the guy told me that work done under warranty is not transferable to me from the last owner.

Not surprised by your experience. It seems that the truth (actuality) is all over the map when asking about this topic. Hence, my reason for asking about others experience(s) and insight.

New car warranty/CPO & Maintenance go with the car...Doesn't matter who bought it..Only exception is Extended service contract.. The names have to match on the car

Obviously 2015 maintenance no longer goes with the vehicle

I am about to buy an used 2011 328i, which comes with BMW gold extended warranty. I called North America BMW, and they said that I and the current owner need to go to a dealer where the warranty was bought, and sign a paper. I pay $50 warranty transfer fee, to use the warranty as a new owner. I live in CA. I do not know whether it's different other states or countries, but the extended warranty is transferable.

New car warranty always stays with the car until the time or mileage is up and no transfer is necessary. For 2015 model years, Ultimate Service is no longer transferrable except for in-household transfers. Previously it stayed with the car, as long as the new car warranty was valid, you would get free maintenance.

Anything else like extended warranties and service plans are up to the discretion of the plan administrator.

CPO rules also changed in 2014, I forget the exact verbiage but I think it says any car that became CPO on or after January 1st, 2014 the CPO will not transfer to the new owner if the car is sold private party.

Again, I can't remember verbatim how it is stated but keep that in mind.

Any car CPOd before Jan 1st, 2014 the CPO will stay with the car - no fee or transfer paperwork is needed.
