Engine oil 318i

has anybody got an idea what engine oil my 318i takes?

I've looked online and a few different results came up such as;

-5w30 fully synthetic
-0w30 fully synthetic

Should i be using castor oil, like it says on the oil cap?

LOL!

Seriously OP, this is what works for the 6 cylinder, I suppose you would benefit from the same list:

In my opinion the Castrol European (0w30, BMW-LL01) is the best.

What does it say to use in the manual? Not trying to RTFM you, but just stick with what the manufacturer recommends (at least in terms of viscosity). Brand is simply people's preference.

Yes, they all have the same requirements. Can't go wrong with them.

My selection of the Castrol is not based on preference for brand, but for the quality, stability and viscosity. Whichever oil is the best should be selected. In this case, based on the options, it's the Castrol Euro.
