There is a lot of pressure on BMW Canada to be somewhat aggressive on the pricing.A lot of the main competitors have lowered pricing in Canada in the last while(Audi,Lexus,Mercedes) so they would have lots of backlash if they price this car too high.I voted for $73000 for the base and hope that my car (all options) will be around $80000.If it is a lot higher,I will cancel the deal and get myself a new C6 ZO6 which I can buy for about $82000 or a used 911.I like the M3 a lot but I am not prepared to get raped for the privlege of owning one.

On a side note,I just bought a new 2008 BMW K1200S which has had a huge price reduction in the last while. It was aprox $22500 when I first looked at them a couple of years ago and the 2008 list is $16500 with a further $750 reduction from BMW before any dealer discounts. That is great value for the money and that is reason that I think that BMW Canada will be pricing the M3 properly because they do seem to be responding to the market pricing pressures(at least in the Motorrad)

In mid 2007, I was being told that the new M3 would target the price at around 86k. the price estimation was decreasing over the year, and my Vancouver dealer Brain Jessel told me that the actual price might not be as high as we thought. He said something like 76~78k. for now, i guess for 77.5k. we'll see the fact next friday in Toronto. Feb 15th, the Canadian International autoshow.

I think it definitely has psychological and substantial impact on the consumers' demand about the price starts initially on a "7" or a "8"(considering $78,800 and 80,200)

Last year at the Toronto auto show there was an RS4 which was listed at +/- $100k. That car is a main competitor of the M3.

This year Audi has reduced the RS4 to $94k and the S5 is almost $66k. I don't see much reason why BMW would sell the M3 really cheap relative to the RS4. I would expect in the $80s.

You have to remember though that the Audi came pretty much fully loaded. iirc the only option was the nav system.

The difference between the bike and car market is that there aren't leased bikes being returned every 4 years.

No but BMW still has to deal with bikes being traded back in in order to sell new ones.Hopefully we should know the pricing on the 13th as that is the pressday at the TIAS,but last the year the E93 was not even priced there and I think we only got final pricing about a week before the car arrived at the dealer. But at least I guessed within $500 of what the MSRP actually was.

While I agree with you to some extent the average of the 4 prices in the poll above is almost $20k less the the price of a S4. I think you're dreaming if you think it is going to come in anyewhere near that.

I assume you mean RS4? If you want to make an Audi - BMW comparison look at the S6 and M5, the M5 is about 10% more than the S6 when they are similarly equipped. Add a 10% price increase to the S5's starting price and you're looking at the low 70's. BMW has a very tricky job pricing the car, but I think the fact that the last M3 was an 06 helps quite a bit. Either way we should know very soon.

also the RS4 was a very limited production car, something like 10k were built (and less than 2k went to the us, I seem to remember hearing 250 for Canada). Much easier to support that level of pricing when you're selling 10x the number of cars.
