OT Home Security - offensive Measures

I am currently upgrading my home security, looking at moving from purely defensive measures - alarms, locks etc to more of an offensive stance.

Has anyone installed fog (smoke) cannons and high intensity strobe / high intensity siren.

Have used this sort of stuff previously, just not in my own house lol.

However, I believe it beats just having a couple of cameras so you can see the twats carrying off your tv

Thoughts....?

Offensive stance? Barbed wire and broken glass might do the trick.

Lol barbed wire, quaint, razor wire is prefereable.

That's defensive.

Have the razor wire and some tanglefoot beside that garage and veggie plot.

I think cameras are a good deterrent to be honest, link that with a monitored alarm system and proper locks high and you give yourself a fair chance.

Also, faced with a house with cameras and one without, they're more likely to tackle the one without.

Problem is, if you have something nice and someone wants it enough, they'll take it.

You'd be nuts to install a smoke cloak in your home. The mess they leave behind when activated is arguably as bad as being burgled!!

It's for a specific entry way, not main part of the house and there is more house friendly fogging stuff around, although apparantly it's illegal to add pepper spray to the fogging liquid.

I live deep in the Welsh countryside and us and our farmer neighbours all share shooting rights over each others land and on any given day you are highly likely to find at least one person wandering around with shotguns and .22LR rifles. It's a highly effective neighbourhood watch scheme.

However for those of a less rural location I would suggest a hatchet or small handaxe, £20 from B+Q. Bloody effective CQ weapon, especially indoors.

It'd be a bit of a major clean up when you don't get to your alarm keypad in time

My house is fitted with professional alarm system(not just some DIY homebase kit) and I've got a security camera facing my drive/car which records on USB plus warns any intruder that being recorded so that should put most of them off.

Make friends with a farmer with hungry pigs. A single adult pig a can consume 2.5KG of human flesh per day complete with bones. A whole herd will remove any trace of a burglar in a day.

Problem with the smoke is how residual is it and also for me is it aquarium friendly ??

Rather than just using a siren or strobe which is still relatively passive - have you considered an LRAD system or if you can obtain them economically then something similar to,a Mosquito that was used to deter youths congregating by emitting a high pitched screech not audible to older ears but uncomfortable to those that could.

More I think about it the more I see a niche in the market here if we could manufacture an alarm that emits at the natural frequency of human internal organs ..........bugger the do gooders would declare it illegal bit like that car alarm that electrified your car

Oh for those with cat problems...

Obviously you could not use in garden etc, in case an intruder tripped over them....
