For Southerners - try road Helmsley to Stokesley

A number of "roads to use" threads around here at the moment. As thoughts turn to holidays, a little known suggestion for those holidaying on North York Moors or in North Yorkshire.

Don't use A19 to Teeside but use B1257 from Helmsley to Stokesley.

Route perfect for 3 series. We did it last week in bright sunshine, lovely english views, sweeping bends and no traffic (well, two other cars in 18 miles). You can keep up your speed throughout the route - no lights, no roundabouts, no give way signs until Great Broughton (16 miles on).

I guarantee it'll put a summer smile on your face!

Great road, however please beware of mountain bikers..

I used to get well upset with idiots on that road.

Personally I prefer the Dales roads to those in the vale of York / moors.

Thought you might know it Brigand.

Agree that unexpected slow bikes could give you nasty surprise.

Yeah and mountain bikers tend to be bigger blokes that drink beer and not lycra queens with their white wine

I know most of the rat runs and roads around there tbh, some classic motorbike routes there as well.

Come up there every year to Helmsley for the Farmyard Party biker weekend. Might have to check that road out this year rather than sampling the real ale for breakfast.

Dales roads take some beating. A65 north of Skipton in great is you can get a time without traffic and the Settle, Ingleton, Ribblehead, Settle loop is a good one.

Admittedly you can't do the dales without doing Swaledale n Wenslydale, or as it's more commonly known - ButterTubs pass.

Mainly for bikers, however, Leyburn to Reeth, then Reeth to Brough via Tan Hill Inn (highest pub) Watching out for, bikers, sheep and lycra clad heroes

I would have said stop for an ice cream at Brymoor farm , however rumour has its been sold and its Guernsey cows

Just by chance spotted this, thought would be handy for anyone venturing to Yorkshire Dales.

Fear not someone saved the business and is still making the same icecream to the same recipes. I think they buy in the Guernsey milk now though. It is definitely worth a visit!
