nice little 600 mile round trip
Just got back from a nice little drive down to Disneyland Paris and back and I have to say my car is simply bloody amazing
The car ate the miles up and even though it is an m-sport, the ride was smooth and it really seemed to love the French roads The toll roads are silk smooth and the road noise from the tyres is noticibly less than in the UK The French know how to drive and their lane discipline is brilliant - it is actually a pleasure to drive there - the worse part was coming back and hitting the M25 with the usual idiot lane hoggers and array of pot holes!!!! My 330d sat at 80 mph pretty much all the way there and back and she averaged 45.5 mpg - all round impressive stuff

Excellent, sounds like a really good trip.
Agree about road noise, have noticed this driving BMW's in different countries. Excellent MPG as well. Work won't let me drive to Italy, was told to stop being stupid and just fly, no fun some people |

On this note of road 'smoothness' I was travelling down the motorway the other day and the inside lane had been resurfaced, the middle lane somewhat coarser. For some reason, I don't know why, I had the power displays showing and had 75mph set on cruise.
I was able to observe a drop in power simply by moving to the smooth lane, I did this several times and it probably dropped the bhp by just over a needles width. As a keen road cyclist, this should come as no great surprise to me...you can always push a gear harder on a smooth surface and I often find myself cycling along any solid road markings as this gives a similar effect. If the government really wanted to be green they'd resurface all our roads to be billiard table smooth. |

I'm off there Monday. Taking 2 of the children for a few nights. Look forward to cruise control @ 80mph & no UK Wanker drivers
Going to chuck a tank of cheap Froggy derv in as well. It was 30p a litre cheaper last summer when I last went. |

I travelled up to Scotland yesterday, only a few hundred miles but a nice run for the car! Averaged about 47mpg sat around 80 also.
UK roads are awful for road noise and potholes, especially with run flats |

- not heard that one before!
Decent road surfaces and drivers that realise there is an inside lane would be good for the nations health as well If the car had a chart for my blood pressure it would go from generally serene green in France to severely pissed off red within 5 minutes of joining the M20.

I've seen numerous cars pulled over recently. Down/up the east coast A1, the polis are using unmarked F30's. I've seen a couple, in action, in black or mineral grey. There is a purge on the now for excessive/speeding. A few folk i know have been done recently. Charged for doing 10% over speed limit. The chief inspector of Police Scotland is getting widespread flack for his instructions, not particularly speeding, but watch out. TBH, i watch what speed i'm doing at the moment, until the purge is relaxed. Pick on somebody else, druggies, burgulars etc. Although the motorist is easiest pickings. |

The M6 is the same from brum to say Warrington. Although when I am work top I have plenty people panic lol. For some reason they see BMW F31, Black shirt with White writing over pocket, and short hair. One bloke I was about level with, looked across at me and threw his mobile he was using across the car. However, yeah a lot of presence on M6, especially just after average speed cameras. Feeding time on the Serengeti.... |

I'm sure our local scottish members will agree on the roads to watch out for.
A1. North of Dunbar. A9. North of Dunblane. M8, M90,M74.Throughout. Those roads have had numerous pull overs. Not as many compared to our english cousins though |

You could take a right just north of Perth and head up through Braemar, Tomintoul and Aberlour. Much more interesting road

The A9 average speed cameras are a PITA.
Our work vans are governed/ limited to 70mph, but due to weight/height or something, we have found that they should be restricted to 60mph, The cameras are picking up random plates & some jobsworth is checking limits on vehicles to check if overspeeding. HGV & LGV take care. |

Used to do that in The 80's & 90's, was at Ballater a lot. Although admittedly used A9 in bad winters, you used to know it was bad when you just got through the snow gates at Drumochter Pass before they were closed. |
