Modification regrets?

Have you every made a modification to your car and regretted it?

What was the mod? & why did you regret it?

Not for my current car, but in the past I had a SEAT Ibiza with little Blue Flashing LED's which flashed when you locked the doors, just like the little red one we commonly see!

But I modified them so the LED's sat inside the headlights! Let just say the five-o didn't like it LOL!

Messing with spacers and wheel offset on a Ford Puma (circa 2010)
Fitting a Clio Cup Racer ARB to a standard Clio 197
Fitting Clio 200 Cup (road car) steering rack to that same 197 (new rack was from a write-off, had wear that would have been warranty covered on original car).
Fitting 17" wheels (TSW Imola IIRC) to a different Ford Puma (back in 1998).
Fitting a ported inlet manifold to the 197, wasn't a bad thing, just no improvement.
Fitting larger brake calipers and rear discs to the second Puma without also fitting the master cylinder and servo from an earlier car.
EBC Greenstuff pads on a Mk6.5 RS2000 4x4, they were rubbish.

There are probably other things too, but those are what spring to mind.
Still, you don't try, you don't learn!

Not a mod, but every kids seat ever in my cars ruins the interior look. damn their safety needs! Still down to 1 seat now and I've taken the cover off so its just black. Colder apparently but tough! 4cm of growth for sons height b4 he also no longer needs a booster!

u know what the laws arnet clear anyway. my kids use booster seats all the time. but the law states your child under X size/weight MUST use a booster seat. but they are not required to use one on a "short" journey.

i am like you i dislike them in my car so i bought bubblebum seats which are inflatable. they get stuffed in the doors when un used. great product

It was 1980, I had a Mini Special 1100. The one with black plastic arches. Mods?

Well there was the 3 resprays in my dad's garage, the last being copper metalflake. The LCB manifold. Electronic ignition. The amp that was DIN sized and strung below the radio. The Peco twin upswept exhaust. Pointless electronic ignition. Didn't regret any of them.

But I suppose I do regret the turquoise acrylic fur dashboard, parcel shelf & door cards. Styled in honour of my hero Capt Sensible. No pics of the car sadly, but here's one of the Damned'd bassist for you:

Had an S14a 200SX back in my youth. Spent a large chunk of a year's disposable (at the time) income on it.

Uprated garret turbo, Uprated hks intercooler, fully adjustable bilstein suspension, superchips remap, Uprated cold air intake, Uprated exedy clutch and handmade decatted Hayward and Scott stainless Steele exhaust from manifold were the modifications I did not regret.

What I did regret was installing a racelogic traction control system (these cars did not have TCS back in those days) and forgetting to switch it on one day.

I ended up writing that car off plus writing off / damaging ten others whilst ricocheting.

Luckily for me I made most of my money back by stripping the thing and selling all the parts.

The only cars I've modded were my track MX5 and this 335d.

I probably regret spending as much doing stuff to what was fundamentally on old car that had seen better days, but not any of the mods individually.

No regrets on the 335d at all. Loads of mods and absolutely loving it at the moment.

Putting a front mount intercooler on an Impreza a few years ago.
Had loads of supporting modifications, but in hindsight, increased lag and was unnecessary.
Also going through a very brief stage of having a (Bailey )vta dump valve and realising how shite these actually are and how they add nothing whatsoever...

not immediately rewiring the intake temp sensor when it failed on my wound up mr2 supercharger. That ended up costing a lot of money when the charge cooler dropped its water
