fake airbag?
Just bought a M-sport steering wheel with dual stage airbag from a member in forums. Had it installed last week, and looks pretty. But I have someone told me this airbag looks like a "fake". Is there anyone can help me look at it? It is not fun to have a non-working airbag in my car =_=!!!
Thanks a lot. |

Didn't notice your red writing in pic initially. Certainly an interesting line/crease. Dunno about it being fake because of it... Intrigued now!
Could be a storage mark? |

I'd be so happy if it is just a storage mark since I bought it as a used part. But I saw this pic today, the one on the left they say it is a "fake" one or aftermarket (no idea how it works)? It has exactly the same mark as mine, which kinda scared me.

I think that line is just where the airbag will "break" out of
After looking at your pic about the fake airbag and compared to other google images it looks like the right one is fake. I AM NOT SURE Just stating my opinion When you google pictures of the m steering wheel all the airbags look like the "wrinkly" leather. The one on the right in your pic looks smooth. Just my opinion I could be wrong |

Oh I see. In that case I imagine they mean fake/aftermarket as in not an OEM part but a pattern-part another manufacturer has made to fit?
Does it have BMW part numbers and marking on the underside or wherever they usually are for the airbags? Hopefully someone else who has retrofitted can provide more peace of mind for ya |

I think that's more like a storage mark. The crease was not that noticeable before shipping it to you.
The airbag had a legitimate part number on the sticker and it has the dual connectors as it's a dual stage airbag. I also scanned my car with ISTA and it did not come up with any errors on my ACSM module when I had it installed it if that helps.
